Neglecting, just like Yglesias & Barro & every Andy Rooney mod con, the relative smallness of the pool who’ve successfully drawn full augmented UI for the duration, the massive group of low & middle wage workers still working in-person without protections who’ve never gotten it
44% of the US work force is low wage(<$18k/yr) — 53 million Americans. COVID Unemployment hit this grp hardest, but a massive number remain at work (they’re *essential*!), often with pay cuts and furloughs.
His concession that direct payments are *good* not on the merits, but as a spoonful of sugar for the “generous” UI package is too little too late
