@SilERabbit Why did Warren let this public assertion of her identity continue unabated, at 50 years old and well into her career, all while making no effort to connect with her claimed community? Here, from the Harvard Crimson in Feb. 1996 & 1998.
@SilERabbit Note that, at the time of Lani Gunier's hiring the article claims Warren is the only "tenured minority woman" on the HLS faculty. Guinier clearly didn't catch that, or didn't buy it, noting that *she* was the "first woman of color to join the tenured faculty."
@SilERabbit And UPenn *still* considered Warren a minority 10 years after she had left Philly.
@SilERabbit After writing in "American Indian" under "race" on her TX Bar registration in 1986, anyone who's being honest can see that she continued to claim Native identity to set herself apart- whether for personal quirk, professional benefit, or to benefit her departments' diversity #s.
@SilERabbit Warren has wrestled, over time, w/ the enormity of having made this claim. 1st approach: pushing back hard in 2012. 2nd: as she approached the presidential race, taking some constructive steps (public apology, legislative proposals) & some destructive steps (DNA test).
@SilERabbit But Warren still stops short of owning up to her real motivations for claiming this identity for so long without (*ever,* it seems) seeking deeper understanding or connection w/ modern Cherokee or Dakota groups, continuing to lean on "it's what I was told (as a girl)."
@SilERabbit Warren's campaign seems to be hoping that they've done enough to atone, repair, and neutralize this as an 'issue.' But this seems to be a place where Warren's directness & clarity fall short.
