It's been a shitty year for the world but for cinema, it's actually been better than expected!
MY 15 FAVOURITE FILMS of 2020: A thread
#15: Nasir/Social Dilemma
2 films that really made a deep, lasting impact on me, but for different reasons. One film made me question where we're heading as a nation, and the other made me wonder where we're heading as a species
#14: Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo
If there was only some way to magically remove the foot-fetish portions, this film was genuine FUN. A simple story told with the typical Telugu 'epic' narrative, combined with an insane soundtrack that made India fall in love with @davidwarner31 again
#13: Varane Avashyamund
To this day, I still don't know what the story of this film is, or whether it even has one. But with some really endearing characters who you'd love hanging out with + Chennai being shown in a fresh, wonderful light, it's a film you just fall in love with
#12: Middle Class Melodies
Similar to the previous film, you don't really care for a story as long as you enter a world full of relatable characters that's devoid of villains.
Wonderful to see Telugu cinema wake up to tell the stories of its smaller towns & cities
#11: Sound of Metal
This film came out of nowhere, pulled my heart out and crushed it. @rizwanahmed as the drummer who loses his hearing is probably the performance of the year, who pulls you into his world and bear-hugs you with his vulnerability
#10: #AKvsAK
I'm a big fan of meta films & this is AS META as Bollywood can get. I still can't understand how @VikramMotwane even thought of this concept, how he got everyone to play along, which is why I can easily forget the imperfections because I was just having so much fun
#9: Lootcase
Over the last decade it feels like 'comedy' as a genre is dying, but films like Lootcase manage to come and revive this dying horse, reminding us of how fun our movies can really be. Also, please give @kunalkemmu more chances to perform like this. He's such a gem.
#8: C U Soon
Though the format borrows from the brilliant 2018 sleeper hit Searching, C U Soon manages to make you forget that and giving you a truly original cinematic experience.
Malayalam Cinema makes a few giant leaps ahead with probably the best film shot during the lockdown
#7: Axone(pronounced 'Akhuni')
An incredibly simple & fun film that talks about the issues faced by a minority in our country without being preachy. Trust me & watch it...it'll make your mind a little more accepting, your heart a little warmer and your day infinitely better.
#6: Finally a biopic that feels less like a Wikipedia page and actually like a FILM. Every crew member + a terrific Sudha Kongara, @Suriya_offl & @Aparnabala2 give their 200% to create the Tamil film of the year
#5: Yeh Ballet
A film that looks & feels international, but still remains so rooted.
Highly engaging, inspirational & emotional enough to make you want to start fulfilling your own dreams, or try to help someone else fulfill theirs.
#4: Cargo
Whatever I try to explain about Cargo will fall short of what it creates. A low-budget film that gives you an out-of-the-world experience, I believe this is one of the most original Indian films ever, blending sci-fi & Indian mythology unlike anything else before.
#3: The King of Staten Island
A simple coming-of-age story about 'a loser who could be so much more'...which is basically most of us manchildren who refuse to grow up.
It's been a long, long time since I actually laughed this hard, yet felt so emotional at the same time.
#2: The Trial of the Chicago 7
It's funny how a film that's set in the 60s is so relevant today...and that reveals a lot about how little we've changed, and how much we need to change.
Another proof of why Aaron Sorkin is a God.
#1: Soul
Everything you need to know about life & death is in this beautifully complex yet oddly simple film. It's a blessing I couldn't see this in theatres cause I'd to have to hide my tears
Will surely be revisiting this as a creator as well as a regular, confused human being.

To who ever is asking about the name change(again) of our YouTube channel from Fully back to Fully Filmy, a few points:
When we first changed the channel's name to Fully on Feb 9, 2018:
Positives: 1) tried a lot of different subjects 2) discovered animation as one of our strengths 3) we crossed 1 mil, 2 mil, 3 mil with our videos 4) subscriber base grew a lot
Negatives: 1) while experimenting a lot, we lost focus + direction 2) lost consistency because of the lack of direction
