I’m going to be honest here, these numbers appear good but at the same time they… Don’t really appear good enough. Perdue beat Ossoff by 88,000 votes in the general.
Let’s say with 80k new voters and a very generous pro-Dem lean of 75%: that’s a 40k net gain for Ossoff. Barely half of what he needs.
This is just the back of the envelope stuff, but what that would mean is that at the rate of new registrations, Democrats would basically have to be matched on LACK of enthusiasm from Republicans at the same rate.
In other words, it’s great if Democrats get 50,000 new voters, but unless another 40,000 existing Republican voters also just don’t vote, it’s not gonna be enough to win. And that’s a tough call.
None of that is meant to be discouraging, just an observation that, yeah, this is a hell of an uphill battle.

I keep seeing people argue that “Democrats failed us again” and man, I’d LOVE to see Democrats actually fail us. Failure implies trying to do something and not succeeding.

Democrats didn’t fail us, they abandoned us.
I have no idea what’s going to happen in the runoff next week and honestly as of this morning I no longer care. If the Dems win it will quite literally change nothing, and if they lose after their stunt last night it will be, to be clear, incredibly fucking funny
I don’t know what else has to happen after all but six Democrats teamed up with McConnell to kill the $2000 checks to make you understand they care only about having power and not actually doing anything with it.

A lot of people have made the no-shit observation that this is the start of Hawley’s presidential campaign, but color me pessimistic—he’s pretty much in a 24 hour period made enemies with the entire Republican Senate caucus and look how well that went for Ted Cruz
The entire strategy here appears to be make the headlines and make money first and as fast as possible to shut out other nominees which is of course a doomed idea, at least 20 Republicans are running in 2024, minimum
This of course does not even consider the possibility that Trump himself will simply run again, which, for the record, he is absolutely going to do, if only to raise money as well

From most of the reviews I'm reading WW84 is a massive casualty of lacking the theater experience in that viewers have instead been left to contemplate the logic and quality of these movies and realizing there is none immediately, instead of hours after leaving the theater
Like imagine if you watched Rise of Skywalker in a setting where you could literally stop at every scene, open your laptop or take out your phone, and immediately address how dumb the thing that just happened was. This is going to kill the entire studio blockbuster model
Attack of the clones might quite possibly be one of the worst movies ever made, but I watched it in the theater twice because it was one of the most enjoyable theater experiences in my life. Movie theaters better figure out how to market that experience as irreplaceable

Pearson is a legally registered voter in the state of Alabama. The fact that “alternate slates” of electors chosen by the losing party don’t actually exist is the only reason he is not literally committing election fraud right now.
Again, this is not an actual political debate of differing opinions. You can look up state voter registrations. If anything Pearson was doing right now was real, he would be going to prison for it.
You can find so many examples of this but it is that unique combination of hilarious and infuriating. So much of what these performative grifters are doing and are pretending is real would actually be illegal if it wasn’t just total bullshit

I have lived my entire life in a media narrative that Republicans are simply not supposed to face any consequences for their actions and what we have been witnessing for the last 48 hours is the result of a media completely unequipped to handle exactly that happening
I think that’s why there’s such a cognitive dissonance between how punditry is reacting to this versus, well, basically the rest of the planet. Look at the backlash to that pathetic Twitter announcement. People are done. They are fucking done with this bullshit
The pieces are rapidly fitting together to the conclusion that the administration, their existing ignorance to all of this aside, likely went to the debate knowing they may be exposed, hid it, and then didn’t tell Biden.
