Here at Columbia River there's two Covid units. When people are getting sick they're going up to the nurses and the staff and telling them that they're sick and being told, "No," they can't be tested and for them to put kytes in.
This is a dorm setting. This is putting everbody's safety and health in danger. People are super super sick, asking for help and getting denied any kind of medical treatment from here.
We've got officers coming and asking questions on medical issues and also refusing people treatment or being tested. We've got Covid positive people working in kitchens and elsewhere throughout the institution. This is not going to be cleared up with this stuff going on.
They have been transporting people from the two Covid units to Coffee Creek but not that many people, you know?

As far as I know, I don't think they do have 24 hour medical, but they've been trying to say that they've been here 24 hours a day.
I haven't seen them, and I know that there's people on the units coming off and they're saying that they're not getting no medical treatment and they don't get no help.
They're in pain and everything else and they're refusing them stuff for their pain. I know when we were at Coffee Creek they were giving people medical attention and it was helping, you know? Checking inmates three times a day and they're not doing that here.
The last time I heard someone ask for medical attention was this morning at med-line. At 7:00 o'clock this morning an inmate went up to the nurse and asked her for a test because he is having symptoms and he has been in bed for five days straight and she told him...
"No, put a kyte in," and the officer, Stone, got involved and he also said, "That's too bad, put a kyte in, you don't need to be seen by medical. You need to put a kyte in."

That's denial.
What if he ends up dead? He's layed up in his bed right now in a fetal position, shivering and shaking, you know?

And they're not helping him.
And then you've also get officers who want to sit in here, walk around with no mask even though it was mandated by the superintendent that they're supposed to have their masks on unless they're eating and drinking and stuff like this...
... but they've been in their offices with their masks off. They come out of their office, come to the podium with their mask off. They come around here and if people don't have their masks on properly they tell us to wear them properly...
... yet it's ok for them not to wear it properly. They're the ones that bring this virus into the prisons. We're not having no visits, we ain't getting contact with outside people. The only outside people we get in contact with is staff members.
And you got 25+ staff members from Columbia River out who are positive. I mean you got parole officers walking around in here filling in for correctional officers. How bad is that? Yet, you want to constantly keep us incarcerated when you're not even looking at...
... everybody's time or looking at people who could be released. You got officers working 16-24 hours a day. Then you got people all the way from Lane County, probation officers coming all the way up here just to work.
There are four parole officers from Lane County who are filling in here. Then you got officers sitting here telling us they're sleeping out in their cars in the parking lot just so they can get some sleep and come back to work because they're so under-staffed.
ODOC needs to start pulling inmates out and investigating. Talking to these inmates. You know? Have a little bit of sympathy. This is humanity. Have some dignity and talk to people about their lives. This isn't about inmates being incarcerated and being scum of the earth.
This is about humanity. This is about a life-threatening disease. This is about people trying to come home to their families. This is about people trying to get back to society; and yet here they are killing people by housing them in dorm settings.
They need to release people. They need to start looking at Measure 11's and all of them... We can't have so much favoritism towards certain crimes. We need to look at all cases.
We need severe help inside of here with this whole Covid because this is a life-threatening disease that is taking people's lives.

Staff ain't doing their job of protecting inmates safety.

Thank you. Please help us.
