Latest new variant report for 2020-12-31 now online.
pangolin assigned 4,632 B.1.1.7 sequences from 21 countries across the world. In addition to countries previously reported, there are now B.1.1.7 sequences from USA (2), Switzerland (1) and Germany (1).
@arambaut @viralverity
New sequences reported from the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and India, in addition to the new sequences from the USA, Switzerland and Germany.
The frequency plot shows the proportion of sequences from each country that are lineage B.1.1.7. For countries with low numbers of sequences reported, the frequency is likely not representative of the SARS-CoV-2 circulating in the community.
As data is generated over time, the rolling average frequency gives an indication of how the proportion of sequences that are B.1.1.7 has changed since this lineage arose, similar to .
Counts of B.1.1.7 sequences updated on volume of passengers leaving London in October. All countries with reported B.1.1.7 cases now represented by sequences on GISAID. @EvolveDotZoo @MOUGK
In pangolin news, we tagged a new release today, with a newly built pangoLEARN model. Most recent version numbers are pangolin v2.1.4 and pangoLEARN 2020-12-17-2. Thanks to @art_poon for spotting a bug, @DrEmilyScher has re-trained the model, and we've updated!
Luckily with the new release (v2.1.4), we've pushed our average recall from 95.5% to 96% and our precision from 95.9 to 96.5%. With the recent updates to pangolin, our precision for assigning lineage B.1.1.7 is 100% and our recall rate is 99.9%. Thanks again @art_poon!

Although most of these sequences are from the UK, it's important to bear in mind the differences in sequencing efforts/ data sharing across the world, which will bias the data we see. Image
We have updated sequence counts overlayed on aggregate data of passengers leaving London in October, capturing true movement of people.
