There is no natural federal agency to do this. If one was made to, they 1) wouldn’t know how and 2) it would represent a massive federal power grab that is unprecedented. And if it’s the state, they’ve already done an audit. The votes have been counted THRICE.
The behavior of republicans from 2016 to now is striking. Making elections critical infrastructure? Allowing DHS to play a major role? Back then, tantamount to a war on states rights. Now? Who cares about states rights. The federal government can do what it wants.
And, while simultaneously arguing that Georgia should be forced to do what a senator from a dif state thinks is best, they say funding elections or setting basic standards to have more uniform processes across the country would prohibit states from conduction their own elections.
These positions do not make sense at once. You cannot believe them both. But here they are, making arguments that are ideologically in opposition to their long history of states rights in elections, to defend the record of a president with historically low approval ratings.
I don’t get it. I genuinely don’t. I’ve been covering election administration for 5 years, and I’ve seen a lot of people in a lot of positions say bizarre things. This is - in terms of history and ideology - the most bizarre.

The Wayne county board of canvassers certified the results of the election in 2016 unanimously despite a far higher discrepancy rate than this year - because small discrepancies between the number of voters checked in and those who cast ballots is NORMAL.
The two republicans were even willing to certify the results in Livonia, a suburb in Wayne county outside of Detroit, even tho the discrepancies there were several times higher than any precinct within Detroit. What’s that? That’s racism.
So why did these discrepancies happen? Bc some folks sign on the wrong line, then sign on the appropriate line to check in. Others aren’t checked in at all bc the poll worker makes an error and gives them the ballot first. Others check in, get to a voting machine and don’t vote.
“We’re not the government,” says Rudy, who says that “plenty of people would have been arrested by now” if he were still in government. ...as the mayor of New York City?
He will not present evidence to the media because he says courts wouldn’t like that. I know of no court that doesn’t accept evidence because it was first given to the media.
Infuriating. DEFCON is widely recognized by election admins as pointless. It does not replicated an actual threat environment. That NBC sent a reporter to act as if it did blows my mind. And that DEFCON organizers are now *taking credit* for improvements this year is laughable.
The machines they use are years old, bought on eBay, hackers are allowed unlimited & total access to them. This does not replicate the election environment in any way. Still, those same organizers made major media outlets believe that 13 year olds were capable of hacking machines
If DEFCON organizers are upset that Trump has used their *own words and exercises* to his advantage this year, they have no one - no one - to blame but themselves and the media who bought it.
Large Texas cities are not exactly mask free locations. I can count on one hand the number of folks without masks I’ve seen in the last few weeks on one hand.
The places I’ve seen where masks aren’t popular aren’t places where targets are located.
The city where I spent most of my youth is responsible for the greatest line in a movie ever: "I'm in Garland, Texas. And it may look like zombies destroyed it, but that's actually just Garland."
That gas station was unfortunately not actually in Texas but y’all stand at the Bobtown exit on I30 and tell me that’s not a dead ringer. Please meet me there for my press conference. The crematorium and the porn store aren’t even anywhere near by. Like 4 exits back.
