SE of England, is Kent, Essex etc - Covid patients on ventilators now at same numbers as in first wave. Admissions with C-19 are much higher

Ah - SE England is Kent, Surrey, Sussex etc, not Essex...
80k infections on specimen date last Tuesday (28/12)... London 7 day rate at not far off 1 in 100 - 950/100k
just in the past month...
This via @gforiester is a more detailed heat map of the above trend in London - five to sixfold increase in 7 day case rate in working age population over the past month:
how to explain announcing all schools need to shut, having sent everyone back post Christmas family mixing, to then mix for one day at school, and then return to lockdown? Last 24 hours data? Low pupil attendance/ staffing today??

So @Samfr maybe you’re the best person to explain how we can help kids in school generally (not just our own) with technology they need for remote learning? What’s the software platform... what sort of tablet (or is it chromebook? Old iPads?). Maybe we can get industry to help...
So is there any point, for example, donating old tablets or laptops - and to whom - and is there, for example a preference for android or iOS?

I was thinking anyone might benefit for example from the dozens of @bbcbitesize lessons - and they just requires an internet stream...

surprised to see issues immediately - our understanding was both GB-EU & GB-NI these would be all applied leniently this week...had heard that specifically about Export Health Certificates, new non-tariff barriers for food exports, requiring council vets or inspectors to sign off

so many doctors & nurses on here explaining what it is like now dealing with this wave in NHS... what’s new is, unlike in April, loads arguing & questioning them with half-baked Facebook theories.... but outside an actual hospital a&e??
This was one of the nation’s top intensive care specialists speaking yesterday to my colleague @rachelburden
And this is really concerning too... if you clapped them in Spring, listen to them now...

Spain & UK announce in principle agreement for Gibraltar to maintain unrestricted freedom of movement within the EU Schengen area...
CM Picardo says under the outline agreement the territory of Gibraltar will be part of the Schengen zone, that there will be Frontex EU border presence at airport/ ports (though not Spanish Guardia Civil) and that Gibraltar will have access to the Schengen Information System
Picardo also thanks PM and FM Raab for recognising that Gibraltar needed a “differentiated” settlement from rest of UK
