A few thoughts on this from someone who knows a decent amount about this space. I'd be more skeptical if @bresreports wasn't involved. But the substance and editorial success of it I'll leave to others. If @benyt is right on the facts of this ... nytimes.com/2021/01/03/bus…
2/ the most significant parts of this story is that they've raised only $1 million and the operation has only five employees. Or one employee and four founders. In any case, only five salaries. That's smart. Indeed, raising only $1 million is INSANE unless you keep the ...
3/ headcount this low. Remember, these are all big players in this space. They're not working for 5 figures. Or at least they certainly wouldn't be on the open market. I assume they're taking lowish salaries in the short run in exchange for equity in the company etc etc.
4/ Given the names they'll likely sign up some advertisers quickly. And they'll certainly get some subscribers quickly. A million cash on hand and those coming online in the first six months, you can make that work. One curiosity, who does the tech, sales and miscellaneous ...
5/ fulfillment? Those things all need to happen (i know). Is Ben not counting those as employees or is that being outsourced - either to consultancy or some substack type operation?

If Ted Cruz isn't able to run for President it might reduce his incentive to attack our Republic and our constitution. Remember, Cruz still has never explained why his parents are listed as voters and citizens of Canada in 1974 records. talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/ted-…
2/ On its face, it appears to show Ted's mom became a Canadian citizen while she and his dad lived in Canada. If that's the case Ted likely wasn't an American citizen at birth. Unlike Cruz's coup claims, there is strong documentary evidence Cruz was not a US citizen at birth.
3/ Americans allowed this Canadian to emigrate to our country but it was with the belief that he would embrace American values and remain loyal to our republic and its constitution. And yet, look how he's behaved.

I saw a very knowledgable hill reporter say McC doesn't care how unpopular this is, he's just focused on saving those to Georgia Senators. This seems very off to me. First, I'll say that I don't think checks will determine the GA sen races. But as close as they are, they ...
2/ could. I do not see how having the Georgians come out in support of the checks. Validate that it's good policy and have McConnell refuse a vote helps them. Not one bit. If I'm the opposing campaigns I LOVE that message to close on.
3/ If I'm the Dems my conversation for the last week is this: you know it's right. So get McConnell to do it. Oh wait, you can't. But you say it's critical that McConnell control the senate. But he does the wrong thing and you can't convince him.

I’ve been thinking today what would be the most random country I could think of for my new origin story. Some of the smallest, most peripheral cld have a lot of cultural resonance, charge etc. But like what if you created an origin story that you were from Belgium or Canada.
2/ Interesting, a number of classmates of Baldwin have piped up to say she was very nice but definitely white. Which is humorous on a number of levels since apart from recent immigrants Spaniards will definitely tell you they’re white.
3/ Basically all these stories have some effort to gain some historically contingent cultural/political cachet. But what country cld you be from that would leave you as vanilla and normie as just being from somewhere in America?

Does your toaster have throw and is throw a good feature? 'Tthrow' is when the toaster not only pushes up the bread after it's toasted but throws it out of the toaster altogether. And yes I just made up the term. Our new toaster throws the toast btw 50% & 75% of the time.
So I decided to conduct a field study and see if I could record it happening. I’ve never seen it, only the evidence of the toast not being in the toaster. But it was on its best behavior.
3/ But closed examination of the video we see this.

Very good stuff in this thread. But I'd like to note where I disagree on what pardons ideally should be for and should operate. Jack notes the current framework which basically holds that you should only ask for or receive a pardon after you've served your sentence, admitted ...
2/ wrongdoing, made amends, etc. People in those categories may certainly deserve pardons. But I think it's a terrible mistake to restrict the power in that way and I'm quite certain that wasn't the understanding of pardons when the power was granted. This basically ...
3/ restricts pardons to symbolic ones. Some people just deserve a break. The machinery of justice may be fair as an ideal but it is brutal and almost by definition merciless. There's an escape valve provided by the pardon power to swoop in and do justice even if the ...

So @apple works a company called Phobio on trade-ins. Phobio has a rep for fraudulent behavior (just google). They make up damage to devices to shortchange you on value. I strongly recommend do not do trade-ins through @apple. Apple seems to know this because if you ...
2/ contact @apple about this they not only tell you you have to take it up with Phobio they put you into a separate part of their support system when phone support staffers supposedly don't have supervisors you can speak with if there's an issue. So basically they ...
3/ have different support channel with anticipates a lot of problems and dissatisfied customers. I've dealt with Apple support for years both as an apple user and as a business purchaser and the support is extremely good. But this is a different channel designed to ...
