BREAKING BBC:

"The BBC is to deliver the biggest education offer in its history across more of its platforms."

From Monday January 11th, CBBC channel will feature three-hours of primary school shows to ensure that all kids can watch programming if they don't have the internet.
BBC Two will focus for secondary school content to help students learning the GCSE curriculum. There will be two hours of lessons broadcast on television per day.

All of this will sit alongside the existing BBC Bitesize content, which will be available on the Red Button.
Similar to the first lockdown last year, Bitesize Daily shows will be accompanied with special archive broadcasts of factual, drama that reflects the curriculum.

Programmes begin 9am with BBC Live Lessons and Bitesize Daily. All episodes will be on iPlayer.
Oliver Dowden (Culture Sec): “The BBC has helped the nation through some of the toughest moments of the last century, and for the next few weeks it will help our children learn whilst we stay home, protect the NHS and save lives."
How has the BBC education offering changed since the last lockdown?

* It will be on television, not just iPlayer.
* Programming blocks on two different channels daily.

Primary children: bbc.co.uk/bitesize
Secondary: bbc.co.uk/bitesize/secon…

It will launch next week.
Here’s the full details, with links to educational resources.

All of this has been announced just *one day* into lockdown.

If you want a distraction from the news there’s some great TV this month:

* The Great on Channel 4
* Max Richter’s Sleep on BBC Four
* Grand Designs returns this week!
* A Perfect Planet on BBC One
* The Serpent on BBC One

TV is *such* a help during these hard times.
Channel 4’s “It’s A Sin” by Russell T. Davies is out in a few weeks.

Drag Race UK is back this month too.

And there’s Celebrity: 21st Century Story, if you’ve missed it on iPlayer.

A really strong January, especially when you consider the challenges TV faced last year.
And finally ... Line of Duty returns for its much anticipated series later this Spring.

We all need a bit of a lift, so here’s my favourite BBC News / Sky News / other British news moments of 2020.
1. When a diplomatic news update on Sky News went off the rails when her son interrupted to ask for two biscuits
2. When an interview on BBC News was interrupted by Scarlett asking where she should place her unicorn [fun fact: both of these happened on the same day]

No Glastonbury. No Eurovision. No Wimbledon. No Olympics. No Paralympics. No Edinburgh Fringe.

A real challenge for broadcasters, with hundreds of hours of television and radio to now fill.
BBC has announced special archive shows for Glasto and Eurovision.

Wonder what their plans are now for the Olympics and Wimbledon?
I have asked the BBC whether they will re-air London 2012, by the way. Of course I have.
