We're already IN the culture of violence fashioned by #Duterte the past four years. I will never tire of saying: REFUSE TO BE THE MONSTER WE WANT TO SLAY. Take back democracy. Fight this culture of violence. ImageImage

Here are essays I've written on local call-out culture. It has meant being called an enabler, a victim-blamer, just because I refuse to join the kuyog. Am reposting in case it helps those apologizing for naming the 10 how to do better. @kakiep83 @iamsuperbianca
2017: "We want to empower girls and women to speak out. But we also want to teach ourselves to be responsible about the accusations and allegations we throw around, we want to make sure that we aren’t turning into the misogynists we hate."

Many years ago male musicians were tagged in a growing list of purportedly sexually abusive behaviour with fans during gigs. It started with actual first hand experience of the one doing the tweeting. But then as is wont to happen, more people chimed in with the same experiences.
The names of these musicians were released on Twitter, prompting articles on mainstream media, with sensational headlines. Complaints spanned everything from actual sexual violence to "malandi siya" and "pa-close mag-selfie" and "nang-aakbay."
There were also insinuations of being "pinaasa" by these musikeros. All those tagged, whether guilty or innocent, would lose their jobs. And not just their musikero-gigs, but also their day jobs.

Yes, blame the PNP for framing Cristine’s death as a rape. But blame YOURSELVES for deciding that the correct reaction was to become Duterte and declare suspects as criminals who deserve to die. #SocialMediaPH #DueProcess #BecomingDuterte #DuterteLegacy
This is NO DIFFERENT from all the times call-out culture on Twitter and Facebook have ruined people's lives and even pushed people to commit suicide. This is the first time though that the police itself has USED THIS CALL-OUT culture to get the mileage it wants out of a case.
And let's be clear here: YOU ARE COMPLICIT. You also, by insisting name those men, they are suspects, they are criminals, they deserve no due process! You also, inadvertently, allowed for all that hate against Cristine to surface.

I've posted screencaps, but let me break down the last part of that speech, where #Duterte revealed he was angry and pikon about OUR frontliners going public with their call for a #TimeOut and #ECQ because of the current Covid-19 response IS NOT WORKING. A thread.
"You did not need to go into raising your hands, revolution revolution. If you think this can be solved by revolution, go ahead, so I will be calling all people who love their country to come forward to work for me, 'yung mga healthworkers to come to help." #DefendFrontliners
"But there is no need for 1,000 of you guys, telling us what to do, publicly. You could've just written us a letter. You know it's the resources. And pera, may gusto kayong bilhin ko, ang problema, ang bulsa ko butas na yung isa. Dahil we have suffered economically."

What a terrible terrible video from the Department of Tourism, using With A Smile as theme, showing images of our healthcare workers, in a supposedly heartwarming montage of Filipino resilience. P*tangina nakakagalit. #DutertesPeople (A Thread)
NO. We are not going to get by with a little prayer and a song. NO. We are not going to "smile as one." NO. This is NOT about resilience.

This is about government incompetence. This is about Duterte violence. #Covid19
This is about private initiatives that feed the poor being shut down by Duterte's men. This is about the poor being rounded up when they demand for food. This is about P275-billion pesos being put in the hands of Duterte's men. #Covid19
