@DCPoliceDept has been deployed to assist United States Capitol Police in restoring order to capitol, mayor says. MPD will lead the command to clear the Capitol building and establish a perimeter.
D.C.'s brand new Police Chief, Robert Contee, confirms one civilian sustained a gunshot in the Capitol. Details not immediately avail.
Mayor Bowser says she requested National Guard assistance a few days ago and it was approved by secretary of the army. The United States Capitol Police requested additional assistance today. There was some confusion at first but ultimately DC National Guard was 100% activated.
Reporter asks if D.C. curfew applies to federal land. Mayor says curfew applies across the city. People will be ordered to evacuate Capitol grounds by D.C. police.
"MPD did not have a role inside the Capitol," says DC police chief Contee until several hours ago, after Capitol police requested MPD assistance.
Contee also says "riotous behavior" is right now limited to capitol, not being identified anywhere else in the city.
D.C. Police Chief says 5 weapons have been recovered. 13 arrests. None of the arrests are of D.C. residents.
To clarify arrests, D.C. Police Chief Contee says these arrests are from "earlier" and are "just above 13." The situation is clearly in flux but unclear why he reported a relatively low number given how many insurrectionists are on Capitol grounds right now.

Sean Blackmon w/ Stop Police Terror Project & PSL leads “defund police” chant near WH.
Right before, he named D’Quan Young, Jeffrey Price, Marqueese Alston, & more black individuals killed by DC police. “Those police murders, it happened under her watch,” he says of DC mayor.
Downtown DC is pretty remarkable today. Organic marches down 7th & Pennsylvania Ave NW. Folks passing out free water bottles & PB&J. So many bikers and babies! So many things to love about the city today.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that the intense military presence and sounds of sirens amid BLM chants ... kill the vibe.
