Thoughts on RW fixation with “violent” Left.

Besides being pure projection, there’s a history of brutal movements/regimes accusing opponents of horrific crimes. QAnon not the first to claim foes eat children. 1/

Medieval Christians murdered Jewish neighbors for supposedly drinking the blood of Christian children in bizarre rituals. These pogroms (anti-Semitic riots) cost tens of thousands of innocent lives, if not more 2/

More recently, fascists used tales of Lefty violence, real and imagined, to whip up their base. The Nazi attack on Jews known as Kristallnacht (also called the November Pogrom) was triggered by the murder of a German diplomat in Paris by a Jew. 3/

Back in Bush W era, knew Nazi comparisons were an immediate conversation killer. So I read everything I could get my hands on about another European country that went fascist at same time, just to understand process 1/

Spain in Their Hearts, Looking for Trouble, Homage to Catalonia (a recollection by George Orwell, who fought on the Republican side--more on that later) are good books to start 2/

I chose the Spanish Civil War (1933-1936) because Americans know nothing about it. It is about how Spain was held under fascist dictatorship for four decades. The Bad Guys won 3/

If you see the end goal is to create a Christian "Republic", the amorality of Trumpers makes a little sense. Anything to advance that goal—lie, cheat, decieve—is OK because they're engaged in "unseen warfare" against the enemies of God, and who is honest with an enemy? 1/

My Mormon ancestors made no bones about being at war with "Babylon" (understood as the wicked/depraved, i.e. anybody not Mormon). Played game of cat and mouse with Federal authority until crackdown on polygamy threatened Church w insolvency. Church caved in 1890. Kind of. 2/

Polygamy was still secretly practiced w approval of leaders for another 20 years, but repeatedly lied about it, even after another "Manifesto" in 1904. Why? Because it's OK to lie to the wicked. You don't give away God's battle plans to the enemy (Satan) 3/
