This year's Letter from the Director is now up, and due to the depth of the topics covered by FKHR in 2021, including the effects of remote work on the schedule and more, we're going to make sure to take our time on translating this one. We'll do a quick run-through first...
6 player raids are considered scary, since one player wipe can lead to a lot of guilt about failure. A lot of old 6-person raids, including the introductory difficulty Rose Queen, were feared by many players. That's why many raids were expanded to fit 18.
6-player raids are still planned for the future, but they will be on the level of the Dark Rapture or Beelzebub 6-player raids, or harder still and considered endgame content.
Updates to auto party and weapon management were promised in 2020's letter from the director, but the GBF team prioritized events and other content during the work disruption. FKHR apologizes, and asks for patience as he describes some of the issues with implementing changes.
Improved inventory management was another promise in 2020's letter, and while some changes were implemented, there are more in the works. They include an "I'll never need this" list of weapons that will be thrown in the anvil on sight, and improving the favorites list.
FKHR on V2:
V2 and the classic GBF battle system will continue to exist side by side. V2 will mostly be reserved for harder content, and he doesn't think that many more V2 fights will be made on Lindwurm and Shenxian's level.
FKHR on Replicard Sandbox:
The Sephira Guidebooks and other Replicard rewards are meant to be earned at a pace of your own choosing. But, as content accumulates in GBF, it necessitates more ways to shorten time spent in older content, a la Extreme+ raids and Hard Pro (1/2)
They're looking into more ways to shorten GBF sessions, and are looking into doing this in the least disruptive way possible. He promises good news in the future.
(2/2)
A last note on Replicard Sandbox: Sandbox's story takes place before each Evoker's fate episode, and FKHR apologizes for the continuity being a bit hard to follow.
He does tease future additions to the Evokers' stories, though...
FKHR on story events:
He's very thankful that fans love the stories enough to trend on Twitter for every month's story preview. He feels like 2020 had a lot of older characters show up with new versions, and this year will continue to mix old favorites with new surprises (1/2)
FKHR adds that January's event will star a completely new character before touching on February's climactic Society event, which will finish the storyline that started with Right Behind You.
(Author's note: FKHR also teased an Albert and Yurius story in 2021 on the Fes stream)
Laying out GBF's goals for 2021, FKHR says that the goal is unchanged from 2020 - to make the game easier to play.
GBF currently has the highest DAU (Daily Average Users) in its 7 year history, with over 30 million accounts. The player base consists of many who play daily (1/2)
as well as those who take breaks and come back. When these players come back, they don't get confused by the changes or overwhelmed by having too much to do at once.
For dedicated daily players, they're still going to keep releasing an unending stream of events and content.
Addressing endgame content specifically, he says that the Tower of Babyl will continue to expand and the Pride of the Ascendant roster of bosses will continue to grow, and adds that there are currently unannounced raids that will be shown off in the future as endgame content.
Moving on to #GBVS: FKHR notes that a large number of console games get beaten and then die out around 2 weeks after release, but he still sees a lot of activity in the GBVS world and is glad to see it.
The Anre trailer is currently scheduled for January 22nd (continued)
A #GBVS balance patch, mostly focused on buffs, will drop at the same time as Anre. The patch isn't meant to shake up the game too much - they haven't had the dev time to process feedback from Yuel's release yet.
He estimates that a balance patch will come every few characters.
#GBVS roadmap: battle pass part 2 in early Feb, with new sound effects, new weapon skins, etc
Late Feb: RPG mode 46-50
The chapter 50 fight will have an new vocal song, and he calls it some of Narita's finest.
7th anniversary stream in March will have Season 2 char 5's trailer
The Relink section of the letter is a repeat of what was stated at Fes - in 2021 they will focus fully on development, and fans should not expect much new info until 2022. The Relink marketing blitz will ramp up at the beginning of 2022.
That's it for announcements in the 2021 letter from the director!
Again, this was an especially dense letter due to the challenges of 2020 and we've only covered about 2/3rds of it - we hope to have a more detailed translation over the weekend.
We'll let you know when it's done

At 5* uncap, her CA becomes Seventh Dispersion. CA damage up, and it also also provides Guard to all allies in addition to Mirror Image.
At level 90: Regeneration becomes Benediction Light. Along with heal and Revitalize, it provides 20 meter, clears 1 debuff, and adds a light Crest. Revitalize boosted to 700 heal/turn.
At level 95: New Support. Healing cap up to allies based on light Crests. Works in back line.
