3.5 weeks since Gov. Cuomo shut down indoor dining in NYC, and not anywhere else in NY State. Let's check in to see what kind of effect that has had on COVID cases. Oh. Image
Well, ok, closing indoor dining hasn't reduced COVID cases whatsoever and it has destroyed an entire industry in NYC, but at least there's scientific basis for closing restaurants in the region with the second lowest positive rate in the state and nowhere else, right?
I always thought New Yorkers were such badasses. Left, right, we did this stupid New York thing together and we'd take no shit. And then our elected officials started doing idiotic things that made no sense, in the name of "safety" and NY'ers basically rolled over. Hard to see.
I've already written about the spineless NYC politicians who haven't said one word about this. Not one "oh hey, governor, can you explain your thinking in closing NYC restaurants ONLY despite us having the second lowest rate in the state? Pretty please?" nypost.com/2020/12/20/new…

In the next few days we will see companies pushed to disassociate themselves from anyone even tangentially related to Trump and they will do it because they fear a different mob.
Yes, at first it will be politicians aligned with Trump (“we will no longer contribute to the campaign of...”) but it won’t stay that way and everyone knows it. The goal has long been to shut down any differing opinion and the left will use the morons in the Capitol to do that.
It's funny people still think it ends with Republicans they don't like. When Republicans were harassed in restaurants, I warned it wouldn't stop there. And it didn't. When Republicans had their homes defaced, I warned that it wouldn't stop there. And it didn't.

Anyone tweeting that Florida is not doing well is just hoping. It's not even debatable. Anything can happen but right this minute both NY and California would trade with Florida and everyone knows it. And Florida is wide open while CA and NY are crippled with closures.
As I've said about COVID before, there's a Russian phrase "it is not yet evening" which applies. Areas with low rates can see spikes, areas with spikes can see numbers fall. It's a virus, this is how viruses go. But Florida is showing us that lockdowns and closures do nothing.
That's why people on the left, who believe so hard that just a little more lockdown should do the trick, want Florida to fail so badly. Videos from Miami restaurants look like 2019, videos from NYC look like I Am Legend (no I haven't seen it).

This is abject nonsense. Anyone who so much as watched the news in passing knew what was happening in Italy. Why does the media continue to let Cuomo push this "no one knew it was in Europe" line? Everyone but him knew it was in Europe.
We were going to go to Italy in summer 2020 with friends. This is a Feb. 26 email from my friend "So, uh... should we reconsider the Italy decision?
thelocal.it/20200225/map-w…" If Cuomo didn't know "in the Spring" that COVID was in Europe, I don't know what to tell him.

How crazy is NYC's new "no screened middle schools" approach? I think it's hard for ppl outside system to really get it so I want to try to break down a small part of it, the part I know. NYC has "citywide" gifted&talented schools, 5 of them in total. One is K-12, four are K-8.
Unlike g&t classes *inside* other schools, these are stand-alone schools. They operate a full year ahead of the regular school curriculum of same grade. One of my kids goes to one of these schools. My other 2 kids are also smart but my daughter is in her own league.
She finishes a book a day, sometimes two. She's teaching herself French in her spare time. But more than any of the stuff she does outside of school, she excels in school, at her already insanely hard, competitive, school she often says it's easy.

On restaurants, the stupid rules, the abuse and the weak politicians letting this happen. My column in Monday’s @nypost: nypost.com/2020/12/20/new…
I could write 10 more articles re stupid rules but top terrible rule is 10pm close. Restaurant owners stressed to me that is murdering their businesses. 10pm close means no 8:30 seating. If NYC politicians could dig deep & find some courage, that would be priority 1 to challenge.
The silence from city politicians, while they get steamrolled by Gov. Cuomo, is pathetic. You’re elected to fight for your city not sell it out because the guy destroying it is in your political party. Stand up, you chair warmers.

Hidden in "no bathroom use" dictat from other night, staff can't drink alcohol at restaurants. Restaurant owner told me: "employees can’t drink alcohol at work anymore. But why? They’re all over 21. We can’t give our employees a glass of wine at end of their shift anymore? Why?
Where's the COVID safety in offering a glass of wine to staff? It seems like our elected officials believe that anything happiness-inducing or halfway pleasant spreads COVID.
Here are the *updated* guidelines where thank you, m'lords, for letting us use the bathroom inside restaurants. www1.nyc.gov/assets/counsel…
