my prediction is that even with the dead bodies (not the, you know… thousands of COVID ones from yesterday) on the ground, an astounding % of GOP and conservative voters/movement will stick with Trump or come back to him. I say this because we’ve seen very similar versions...
…of this before. Access Hollywood? Charlottesville?

Hell, the GOP got back behind Roy Moore *even faster* than it took for them to get back behind Trump at end of 2016 race. Then Moore lost.
There is absolutely no reason to belive any of their “distancing” from Trump is anything other than a moment-of PR move, until time (not even that long a period of time) passes. Check the record. We’ve seen this exact play before.
You need very very very little to convince scores of powerful and not so powerful Republicans and rightwingers that the alternative (everyone getting antifa healthcare) is scarier than the worst of the past five years. It takes… nothing, really.
The Democratic Party is no prize and oh my god do they suck so hard, but there isn’t an equivalency here; hasn’t been for many years. One is objectively more depraved in its modern form

THERE IS NO NEW TONE, LITERALLY HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO DO THIS, THERE HAS LITERALLY NEVER BEEN ONE TIME WHERE HIS PREWRITTEN FORCED READINGS EVER STUCK WHAT ARE YOU DOING
I’m not exaggerating, I’ve been keeping track for four years. Literally. Every. Time. No exceptions. He does scandal and chaos and disphittery, he is a coward and gets cowed into doing a few minutes of public remarks because he sees everyone is Mad at him, and then it’s back...
...to doing things like saying the coronavirus numbers are bullshit and then retweeting that all his enemies could like go to jail for saying he never had a shot at Salma Hayek

I am also concerned that after Trump leaves office people will be unemployed but most of the people I’m worried about are people who this White House and president helped unemploy
To be clear: ALL of these guys are going to be fine. Most of them will be making six figure salaries for decades to come, welcome into policy, comms, lobbying, campaign, business soft landings & futures. But if that WEREN’T to happen to them, they can still get *a* job, just...
...maybe not their dream job as chief of staff to the lead hostage taker in the Tiffany Trump State Department, but they can do something... else. How about one of the millions of minimum wage jobs? jobs Republicans have told those workers for decades that the wage is high enough

The people who keep tweeting and going on the news to say we need to stop referring to these people and politicians as “conservative” must have slept the past many years of the conservative movement and gop
Conservatives decide what is conservatism, and they’ve done it. Parties and ideological brand names shift and trim around the edges all the time. “Conservative” is not inextricably linked to you reading Edmund Burke once in college and refusing to admit you don’t understand...
...modern conservatism.

dumbest, shittest fucking attempted coup in recent history, right here: thedailybeast.com/after-inciting…
Multiple sources w/ knowledge of the matter & who've been in contact w/ Trump since Wed. say he continues to insist he did absolutely nothing wrong, & that he wants people to look into baseless rumors that antifa radicals infiltrated MAGA protest & riot thedailybeast.com/after-inciting…
unbelievably cruel and stupid. thedailybeast.com/after-inciting… Image

our first report on the day’s events, from me and @lachlan, still reporting out what we can. Featuring reporting from inside the Trump WH today and his inner circle, Trump’s former national intel director, the MyPillow CEO / major funder of the pro-Trump efforts, & a lot of shame
@lachlan absolute dumbest authoritarian of my short lifetime, def a top tier contender for dumbest and whiniest: thedailybeast.com/trump-is-furio… ImageImageImage
Even after all this, it would surprise me if Trump lost that much influence in the conservative movement and GOP.

Ed Rollins, chair of the pro-Trump Great America PAC, about an hour and a half ago: “Dems are killing us at grass roots...This is [@staceyabrams’s] revenge...looks like dems are going to pull it out.”
as results rolled in Tues. night, Trump campaign kept fundraising—in part by baselessly casting doubt on Georgia elex. “Pres Trump: Is it true that voting machines ‘stopped working’ earlier in Georgia today?” Trump2020 texted supporters. “Are Dems trying to STEAL this Election?”
That one came in right around 8:20 pm et Tuesday
