YES, we all want to see impeachment articles filled ASAP. Unfortunately, House Rules require unanimous consent in order to meet sooner than Monday and McCarthy is objecting. Put another way, we have to wait because Republicans continue to obstruct the pursuit of justice.
On Monday, we should expect to see articles of impeachment filed, as reported, on one issue: Insurrection. Which these members saw and witnessed with their own eyes, and whom all were put in harms way as a result of. If they can't vote for that, they should resign.
You don't even have to take my word for it:
Confirmation from @SpeakerPelosi that they will move forward with impeachment.
For the "they should've done it yesterday" folks, they didn't have the votes. A number of members had hoped Pence would enact the 25th amendment but he is refusing, and Cabinet members - rather than protest Trump - resigned to PROTECT him so they didn't have to vote.
And for the "it's too late to matter anyway" folks, no. No it's not. If he is impeached for insurrection even on his last day in office, he is not qualified to run again for any office under the 14th amendment section 3. This is how you stop the Trump 2024 campaign.
LOTS of Qs on impeachment process (& forgive me I'm not used to this many comments!) but in particular folks are worried about if there will be the votes in the Senate for conviction/removal after a House indictment. 1) I encourage folks to help rally votes in the Senate.
2) if the House indicts but the Senate won't convict/remove, the House indictment would still be significant in a criminal trial after Trump leaves office (but again, call the GOP Senators!)
3) Can Trump be Convicted and Removed by the Senate after he is out of office (once the new Dems are sworn in)? This is more complicated. Lots of legal opinions and I would refer people here as a primer: nbcnews.com/politics/donal…
4) Regardless of the Senate votes Trump and ANYONE can still be indicted under criminal charges in the future for insurrection which would still render he (or they) ineligible to hold office, without regard to impeachment.
5) Since I have seen folks say that no one in DC ever goes to jail, I thought folks might appreciate this list of some federal politicians for whom justice was served. We can and must hold seditionists accountable through all mechanisms legally available.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A…
(And not just seditionists... anyone who abuses the power bestowed on them by the American people and who abandons their oath should be held to account.)
Well folks, McConnell continues to show us exactly who he is. He has thrown down the gauntlet and issued a timeline that says Trump cannot be impeached until after the election. Of course, he is the one with the power to change this timeline and is currently refusing.
Leaders can be pressured by the caucus, just like they take action to protect their caucus. It is not too late to call the Senate Republican members and urge them to take up impeachment BEFORE inauguration.
As I have mentioned in other tweets, there are differing legal opinions about completing an impeachment in the Senate after a President leaves office. A post-term impeachment trial for a former president would be a historical first, as would a second impeachment trial.
Folks who are still engaging in Pelosi bashing need to move their time and attention on to McCarthy and McConnell. And even to PENCE. It is NOT too late to call for 25th Amendment. Those who spend their time complaining about the Democrats are really showing themselves right now.
And if McCarthy and McConnell are later found to have inside information about this insurrection or to have aided it in any way, and continue to block impeachment, they must also be investigated and charged, as well as removed from office.

Representation matters.

I fear when people hear this, they think it *only* means people who look like them, and that IS an important part of representation.

But it's not just genetics. It's about values. 1/
There is a VERY FLAWED assumption that Black and people of color are not viable candidates in certain regions.

Worse, there is a purity test for these candidates.

They are expected by DemSocialist & Progressives nationally to embody ALL the politics of the most blue regions.
Let me be clear: this is a racist and classist assumption.

How dare those with privilege call for Black and POC candidates in swing districts to lead the charge on issues so contentious that they can not pass as federal legislation.
