On the utility/futility of travel bans during epidemics. I know people are probably tired of hearing about coronavirus by now, but I've seen so many (stupid) people comment on the use of travel bans that I couldn't restrain myself. The "expert" opinion that travel bans do not
work in containing respiratory epidemics such as the coronavirus is actually true, but incomplete. They are actually 100% correct in that these are generally post-facto barn door closures and that initial diagnoses means that it has already spread elsewhere undiagnosed.
The first diagnoses of the coronavirus was made in China on December 27, 2019 and now there is testing evidence of it already having arrived in Italy by November and the US early December. Travel bans in and of themselves do not prevent epidemics, it merely delays spread, slowing
down the formation of new travel hotspots. However, and this is a big but, travel bans are ineffective only using the "mitigation" strategy adopted by most of the West. They are effective, and indeed essential for the "elimination" strategy pursued by several other countries who
were able to contain the spread of coronavirus to tiny numbers. Travel restrictions need to be paired with active suppression efforts. if the extra time bought by travel bans is simply wasted by doing jack shit, as opposed to what Australia/NZ/SK/Vietnam/China, etc were all doing
then whining about instituting an earlier or later travel ban is irrelevant and missing the point entirely on what they can and can't do. It's a useful tool, but only one part of the other tools that are also needed. If you don't pair them with mandatory quarantines, its useless.

The funniest thing about the whole Hong Kong democracy movement going all in on Trump is the specious rationalizations and excuses made for them by their Western liberal enablers who are anti-Trump. It was clear from the outset that the impetus of the entire movement was
primarily a rightist movement driven by a type of hyper-local chauvinism run amuck that was being fueled by American agitators for principally geo-political purposes but that couldn't possibly be true, because look at all these Western media assets regurgitating their agitprop.
Yet by going all in on the most retarded and brain dead Trump nonsense, it's become crystal clear that the same impulses beats at the heart of both movements and it has never been about any so-called values, but rather a more primal feeling that their world is under threat by

All of American tech and social media moving in unison to purge Trumpists at the moment is both absolutely hilarious but also should serve as a wake up call to all sovereign governments to provide domestic alternatives and prevent monopolization. It's funny because Republicans
are the biggest abusers of these kind of coordination bottlenecks and "natural" choke points that America has under it's control that are wielded against foreign nations that resist it's hegemony. The blacklisting via banks and payment processors, the media bans, the purging from
what were ostensibly the public commons, third party attacks, etc. are all the exact same weapons the US government wields abroad now turned against domestic enemies. Anyone who wants to retain a shred sovereignty should seek to create alternative institutions outside of US reach

Ultimate sovereignty in Hong Kong was held by China, thus the two systems was conditional on one country. Ever since that 2016 Shina oath taking stunt in the Legco the pan-dems behavior has made it clearer and clearer that they didn't take their oaths very seriously if at all.
Their loyalty was perfunctory and their treasonous behavior barely disguised. The National Security Law was basically the Party's version of a line in the sand, past transgressions could be forgiven if they cut off their churlish behavior. A fuck around and find out law.
Given that the pan-dems are basically engaged in reddit tier politics, they took it as a challenge and thought they could be clever and continue to openly commit treason as passive aggressively as possible. Not even obeying the letter of the law and thought the consequences would

Black pill for my American followers; virtue matters more than legal proceduralism or political formalism. Laws are ultimately tools of and creations by men, thus their utility will always depend on the quality of men writing and executing them. This isn't something explicitly
stated by the eunuchs who constantly repeat rule of law as a catechism but it is true. Good men nor good people require much in the way of laws, they are primarily tools to constrain the wicked. Perhaps the reason why your elected representatives are so uniformly shit is because
the American people, or at least the majority that makes up the gestalt consciousness of the American vox populi are now equally pieces of shit. No one likes to think Ill of themselves or their families, but ponder if you will the exponential increase in laws and complexity of

The fundamental error that China Watchers make is their inability to reconcile contradiction. Part of this is due to intellectual inadequacy, they just don't have sufficient neurons, bust mostly due to faith. Their stupid takes are functionally an intellectual auto de fe directed
against China ordered by Moldbug's proverbial Cathedral. What is the contradiction that drives them to denounce the Chinese as heretics? Chinese society is becoming more functional, coherent, and all around nicer while simultaneously becoming more illiberal. This is the great
Heresy that strikes at the heart of their faith. Their belief that the former is only possible through the process of a society becoming more Liberal and adopting the socio-economic arrangements that the US seeks to impose on it's vassals and satrapies. If the society is not

If I were head of the CCPs propaganda department, just theoretically speaking of course 🤗, the way I would wage psy-war in the West wouldn't be through funding English language CCTV or even bothering with counter-propaganda but rather with amplifying existing anti-social trends
Giving people your version of the truth is a sisyphean task because introducing new facts doesn't actually change other people's minds. Hunan's aren't rational to the degree most people think they are. Instead of countering anti-Chinese propaganda that plays through their priors
head on, the United Front would be better off amplifying anti anything else propaganda to the hilt. For 99% of of people, China is a distant abstraction. There are always more personal immediate hatreds that take priority. Chinese disinformation campaigns should instead serve to
