Facebook and Twitter banning Trump sends an incredibly powerful message:

This sends a powerful message to the next generation of trolls who think they can get rich and famous by ostentatiously breaking the rules.
Is it at the last minute? Sure. They should have done it years ago. But I’m still glad they did it now.

Another thing the Trump bans do: empower every community manager to say to their boss, “if Twitter and Facebook can ban the president, we can boot this guy who is breaking the rules in our community.”

For better or worse, new community products take Facebook and Twitter decisions as what’s “normal” and emulate it.

These sites are still here, and there’s still a LOT they need to do to protect their users and democracy, so I’m glad people like @JuddLegum will continue to hold them to account.
