CBS News's @60Minutes reports: the call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on January 2nd call was not Pres. Trump's first attempt to influence Georgia's election outcome. Sources tell us last month, Trump himself phoned one of the Georgia Secretary of State's investigators
A person briefed on the call said Mr. Trump told the investigator they would be a "national hero" if they found evidence of fraud. But no evidence had been found by the investigator, and days later Mr. Trump would be similarly rebuffed by Raffensperger.
There will be more about this, Sunday on 60 Minutes.

Family Affair: Eric Munchel, the man seen trespassing inside the U.S. Senate with flex cuffs, went to Washington with his mom, a 57yo nurse. They stormed the Capitol together wearing bullet proof vests. Both expressed radical views as reported here: commercialappeal.com/story/news/202…
Quote from the son: “We wanted to show that we’re willing to rise up, band together and fight if necessary. Same as our forefathers, who established this country in 1776...The point of getting inside the building is to show them that we can, and we will.”
Quote from the mom: “This country was founded on revolution,” she’s quoted as saying. “If they’re going to take every legitimate means from us, and we can’t even express ourselves on the Internet, we won’t even be able to speak freely, what is America for?”
NEWS: U.S. Army Captain Emily Rainey has resigned her commission, @CBSDavidMartin reports, after leading a group of people from N.C. to the rally in Washington that led up to the deadly riot in the U.S. Capitol.
Rainey was a psychological operations officer, @JimLaPorta reports.
Rainey, 30, “made headlines back in May after she posted a video online of her pulling down caution tape at a playground that was closed under North Carolina’s COVID-19 restrictions.”
She wrote this, June 2, 2020:
In her own words: “You are absolutely allowed to tell people how you identify politically, and you are allowed to promote your party but with limitations because: with great power comes great responsibility.” sofrep.com/news/dos-and-d…
Video appears to show a pro Trump mob of domestic terrorists drag a police officer, face down, down steps of the Capitol as he ruthlessly beat him with fists, flags & crutches while an audience of supporters chants U.S.A. & “Take Him Out”
NEWS: Human rights attorney @lyciaora resigns from @latinojustice after reports accused of posing as a Latina. @nypost: “claiming Puerto Rican and Colombian heritage for over a decade, Natasha Lycia Ora Bannan is actually a white woman from Georgia” nypost.com/2021/01/07/hum…
.@lyciaora was quoted as saying: “I am racially white, and have always said that. However my cultural identity was formed as a result of my family, both chosen and chosen for me, and that has always been Latinx,”
More from her: “My identity is my most authentic expression of who I am and how I pay honor to the people who have formed me since I was a child.”
This is one of the best eyewitness accounts I’ve seen of what happened leading up to the Capitol attack & during it. This was posted to Instagram by James Townsend, who identifies himself as a freelance journalist. Part 1
Lots of reporting here from CBS’ @FaceTheNation moderator @margbrennan: the President will resume some official duties this coming week including diplomatic outreach, transition activities and a planned trip to the US Mexico border.
Three administration sources told @margbrennan that he does not plan to resign nor does he feel any pressure to do so. He has given the silent treatment to his most deferential of allies: Mike Pence.
While he was sheltering in that bunker, the President did not call the VP to check on his safety nor that of his family according to a source close to the @VP and they have not spoken since Wednesday. @margbrennan reporting.
