On January 6th, the President of the United States incited a violent mob of anarchists and seditionists to storm and attack the Capitol, defiling the People’s House, the temple of our democracy.
These domestic terrorists were specifically seeking to bring harm to the Vice President, Speaker of the House, and the whole of the Congress.
The President’s encouragement of the insurrection and his intended disruption of our Constitutional duty to count the certified Electoral College ballots is a direct threat to our rule of law, national security, and democracy.
His willingness to incite, and potentially facilitate, violence against a coequal branch of government are as much a mortal threat to our constitutional republic as they are a violation of our nation’s laws.
Therefore, on Monday, I intend to help introduce a resolution impeaching President Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors.
