Folks, we’ve been sleeping on Pensacola. What an incredible town. Full of history, cool food, and it’s gorgeous. Made my way downtown to look around earlier. Stopped off at @5sistersblues for some eats. It didn’t disappoint. 1/
But I had zero idea about Pensacola’s ties to the Blues. 2/
It’s a religious town, too. And if you dig church architecture, you’re in for a treat. 3/
There’s also an embrace of the city’s colonial past, as depicted in this, uh, creatively written history of the American Revolution. 4/
Andrew Jackson was here to receive Spain’s claim to Florida. I stumbled upon this spot. 5/
There’s also a host of museums that the very nice man on the naval base told me about as he directed me off the property, so maybe next time on those. (Apparently they’re all closed to non military personnel at the moment- I was headed to the lighthouse) 6/
There’s also a ton of pelicans around that have been decorated in different styles. I really like the art of the Pacific Northwest, so I liked this homage. (I don’t know anything of the artist.) I’ll post more as I see it over the next couple days. 7/

Ben Carson here to say historians are destroying the nation’s identity by “deceiving” people.
Larry Arnn to talk about the “recovery” of history, because “humanity is at stake,” presumably forgetting that this administration puts children in cages.
And there’s the “elite universities” reference.
Arnn complains that the “big states” choose textbooks, forgetting that Texas is Texas.

Every now and then a take it so bad that makes you literally shake your head in disbelief. Such seems to be the case among those who would tell you Andrew Jackson is getting a bad rap and is, in this case, been "unfairly smeared."
Jackson emerged on the national scene during something called the Redstick War, or Creek Civil War. The war broke out in Creek Indian towns for a multitude of reasons, but largely over the changing nature of what it meant to be "Creek" in the nation. 2/
By 1813 the Creeks were the most powerful nation in the Southeast and the largest check on American expansion. Americans watched the war in present-day Georgia and Alabama and waited. When Americans were killed at Fort Mims on August 30, 1813, they finally had an excuse. 3/
Hi @NetflixFilm, I'm Jason Herbert. I'm a doctoral candidate in history at the University of Minnesota and I'm the creator of Historians At The Movies. Every weekend, we (historians and the general public) tune into @netflix to watch and live tweet a film together. #HATM 1/
If you'll check your viewing records, you'll see a bump on either Sunday nights at 8 since last July or Saturday nights at 9 since May. If you search the hashtag #HATM you'll see we've made quite the impression. 2/
