this is the optimum dynamic for impeachment because the fake intellectual MAGA punditry was just hoping to run out the clock & get onto slagging president biden but now they’re stuck deciding between defending a terrorist coup or just sitting this one out
you can tell they’re taking a half-assed run at trying to thread the needle but they get wrecked every time they do by not just the usual subjects but by friendly fire from some of their own team who’ve already decided to cut bait and let trump sink
this is one of the main reasons I think trump actually does get removed: the inexhaustible punditry mill actually is exhausted, getting it from all sides, and it’s just easier to step aside and let it happen
any other time trump just buys himself two more weeks out of the cycle by initiating another outrage to let the defenders fill their tanks & get back in the game but here for the first time ever there’s a hard stop. nothing in it for them to ball out over nine days
the reason the gentry MAGA pundits matter is because that’s who the senators most likely to remove trump are influenced by. take them out of the game, those senators lose their preferred media bodyguards
of course, run out the clock is an appetizing target so the other probable outcome is just a quiet endorsement of mcconnell running out the clock procedurally. but every day they sit on their hands they look worse and worse for no reward of any kind, which may not be sustainable
as I mentioned last night, these dipshits have been the senate’s firewall for deciding how much they could get away with supporting trump, and they’ve totally punched out. interested to see how queasy losing the MAGA pundit drumbeat makes many GOP senators
