My career path so far has been non-linear

From creative to strategist and from agency to client side, I've worked across every continent and helped build some of the world's biggest brands

Here are some of the most important lessons I've learned

🧵...
1/ Never fall in love with your own ideas

You will be blinded by constructive criticism

Instead, fall in love with selling your ideas

If you can build ideas and sell them you will be unstoppable
2/ Have a point of view that pushes the status quo

Do your research, have a plan, and know where you can add value to a meeting

Push the conversation on with a provocative point of view
3/ Managing conflict is a rite of passage

People will argue to win not to learn, but leading with curiosity, not critique, makes for less confrontation
4/ Comfort is the enemy of progress

Keep making yourself uncomfortable in order to adapt and grow

The path to greatness starts with accepting your weaknesses
5/ Leadership is a mindset

A position or title won't define you as a good leader

Work on building the foundations of trust through positive relationships, good judgment and consistency

These elements are highly correlated to leadership effectiveness
Have a bias for action but patience for results

Nothing worth having comes easy. Those who win are those who persevere and don't expect overnight success

The most overlooked growth strategy is patience
Pressure is a privilege

In order to win you need to take calculated risks

Creativity relies on intuition and leaps of faith, we just need to balance higher risk with a higher tolerance for failure
You only have a number of good decisions a day, don't use them all up at once

Being more efficient is to spend time working out what you won't do as much as it is trying to do everything on your list
That's it for now

Let me know the biggest lesson you've learned so far in your career down below 👇

An account to keep your eye on is @brandonthezhang

His use of long and short-form content across platforms is being rewarded with a growing following on twitter

Here's why (thread)
1. Focus
@brandonthezhang writes clearly but it is his focus on reading and writing that allows him to go deep into topics.

On Twitter he teases a concept and on his blog and podcast he dives into the details
