JUST IN: "The men and women of the FBI will leave no stone unturned in this investigation." - Steven D'Antuono, FBI Wash Field Office, opening a press conference. Scouring 1000s of vids and images for leads, asks public to keep sending them into FBI tip lines.
FBI warns Capitol riot participants if you don't come forward, "Agents from our local field offices will be knocking on your door."
The scope and scale of this investigation is unprecedented in FBI if not DOJ history, says Michael Sherwin, Acting US Attorney, DC. "Everyone is in for the long haul."
DOJ has opened cases on 170 people already, "that number is, I expect, likely to grow into the hundreds." From assault on officers to theft to felony murder and civil rights.
Felonious. That's a great word.
Sherwin says 60 charged already, many with misdemeanors but likely to be charged w additional crimes, including firearms-related.
JUST IN: @FBI is looking at significant felony cases tied to sedition and conspiracy, says US attorney in DC.
JUST IN: @FBI is still looking for who placed the pipe bombs at the RNC and DNC. Sherwin, "They were real devices. They had timers. We don't know why, exactly, they did not go off."
FBI says they have issued a $50,000 award for the ID of individual(s) who left the pipe bombs at the RNC and DNC.
FBI says they're interviewing riot suspects about whether any had plans to take members of Congress hostage.
DOJ ends press conference. Less than 30 mins, they were on a roll with useful information, very disappointing so short.

Hi. I just sentenced a child molester to prison today.
So, since last Tuesday I've been on jury duty, as you may recall. I experienced the Capitol mob riot story a little differently, in fits and starts as I checked my phone between judge's recesses in courthouse. /1
Last week, we heard graphic testimony by a 17-year old girl alleging how her mom's boyfriend (her de facto father from age 2) raped and touched her from age 10 to 13. Our 12-person jury convicted him of two counts of aggravated sexual battery, and sentenced him today.
We were just the 4th jury trial in Fairfax Co., Va., since COVID. They're adjusting courtroom procedures for safety, which is why this trial went on longer than usual. My utmost respect to the officers of the court who hear this kind of thing regularly, and are trying to work.
