US govt reveals Eduard Florea - a Proud Boy in Queens who threatened to kill people in DC - was arrested and found with:
More than 1,000 rounds of rifle ammo
2 dozen shotgun rounds
75 combat knives
2 hatchets
2 swords
Prosecutor: "This is not just idle talk. This is talk supported by action."
Florea traveled to DC with other Proud Boys in December and was with them when they vandalized a Black church
Feds note his membership in an extremist organization as reason for keeping him behind bars until trial.
Florea was allegedly found with all of this ammo despite the fact that he is a felon who once, apparently, nearly choked his wife to death in front of a child.
Defense atty says he's a software engineer with wife and two kids at home
His mom in the Bronx is willing to help pay his bond. The ammo was seized from "storage." No evidence there was any actual firearm at his home in Queens.
Def atty: Feds came to his house in "a tank" on Wednesday morning.
Prosecutor: "You can't condemn what happened at the Capitol and hang out with proud boys... sometimes the gun is held by someone else."
Judge: "I am denying bail and ordering permanent detention."
Sorry, something was lost in my previous tweet. The feds went to his house "in a tank."
US district judge in Brooklyn says there is evidence of "a premeditated plan to exact violence on people in New York, people in Washington, United States senators..."
I just spoke to Florea's wife. She's worried about her kids & blames Donald Trump for whipping up her husband's Proud Boy friends & fueling their anger.
"They came over on Thanksgiving & they were going crazy."
"You saw the good in him, didn't you?" she pleaded to a neighbor.
She said the assault on the nation's Capitol building on January 6 changed everything, and she's furious at the president for what he's done to the nation -- and her family.
The crime and the subsequent investigation all proceeded in secret. Documents related to this incident are marked “CONFIDENTIAL.”
I know this, because I have them.

My journey started at the federal courthouse in May. I discovered a case in which an undocumented kid was begging to be freed by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
In the lawsuit, it mentions that the boy was sexually assaulted at the MercyFirst shelter on July 1, 2017.

Sitting in a nearly empty immigration court on Tuesday, the judge called the next case. In walks a 4-year-old Honduran girl, her hair in a dozen braids each with a black bow. She refused to sit in the chair.
She preferred to sit next to me in the back.

The translator leaned over, telling her about upcoming court dates & the importance of attending -- or being subject to a deportation order in absentia.
Of course this little darling had no idea what was going on. She blew raspberries my way & giggled the whole time.

The first time she responded to the judge was when she asked her age. The girl raised her right hand and four little fingers, then looked at me and smiled.
