I wanted to pull a quote from this to tweet, but every sentence, every paragraph, is powerful. Read the whole thing.
.@RepMeijer: “There was no such courage from our President ... The one man who could have restored order, prevented the deaths of five Americans including a Capitol Police office, and avoided the desecration of our Capitol shrank from leadership when our country needed it most.”
“Ford’s pardon of Nixon was a necessary step to move the nation past the wounds of Watergate but it followed Nixon’s resignation & acceptance of responsibility. Since last week, the President has accepted no responsibility for the violence his rhetoric & actions inspired.” 🔥
.@RepMeijer: “With the facts at hand, I believe the article of impeachment to be accurate. The President betrayed his oath of office by seeking to undermine our constitutional process, and he bears responsibility for inciting the violent acts of insurrection last week.”

76 years ago today, on June 16, 1944, South Carolina executed a 14-year-old child, George Stinney, Jr.

He was so little that they used a Bible as a booster seat in the electric chair.

In 2014, a court ruled that he had not received a fair trial and overturned his conviction.
“The 14-year-old had not seen or spoken to his parents for wks, & they were too terrified of the white mob to show up @ the trial. Instead, strangers surrounded him. 1500 people swelled into the courtroom, too many to fit. They flowed out of every door.”

“Lloyd Batson, a white pastor, left with them. At the request of George’s father, he had attended the execution. He’d promised to look George in the eyes before he died so that the [14-year-old] child would know that someone in the room loved him.”

OF COURSE I wrote about @taylorswift13’s new activism. Fun fact: This piece started at more than 3000 words because I just had so much to say about her, the new album, and her politics. (If you want my analysis of each song on LOVER, just let me know!)

I believe Swift has a right to champion causes she believes in... But it seems the more Swift leans into her new political identity, the more she recklessly simplifies complex issues and deliberately antagonizes those who disagree with her.
arcdigital.media/taylor-swift-g…
I utterly disagree that Swift should be silent about her politics b/c she is a performer. Celebs don’t exist in a vacuum for our entertainment. But if she’s going to be an activist, w/ her platform she must understand opposing arguments, not ignore them.

Am I watching a different Gillette ad than everyone who’s mad about it...? I don’t understand why people are angry about a message to be the best man you can be by stepping in to stop bullying, being supportive fathers, & calling out bad behavior instead of looking the other way.
What in the ad does Piers think was an attack on masculinity? The only reference to masculinity was *toxic* masculinity. What does Piers think we should allow boys & men to do in order to let boys be boys & men be men? Gang up? Harass? Treat others poorly?
The ad even says “we believe in the best in men.” That’s an inspiring and positive message!
