I've heard some questions and concerns from yesterday’s call for eligible health care workers to book vaccines.
You have done remarkable work for many months, caring for ABs when they need it most. Thank you for the work you do every day. (1/6)
Given the uncertainty with vaccine supply into Alberta, @AHS_media is actively pushing for bookings when they have vaccine available. They have doses available for this weekend, and we want every appointment to be filled if possible. (2/6)
AHS experienced a technical issue with its online booking tool for a short period last night, but it's now been fixed. I know that's frustrating and thanks for your patience. (3/6)
Since AHS put out the call, more than 5,000 eligible staff and physicians have already responded. Thank you to everyone for acting so quickly. Appointments for eligible healthcare workers remain available in all zones for this weekend as of 10 a.m. today (4/6)
I know that many hardworking and dedicated HCWs would like to be vaccinated asap. With limited supply, we are focusing on priority areas, but we will keep expanding our approach as more vaccines arrive. (5/6) alberta.ca/covid19-vaccin…
We are rolling out the vaccine as quickly as possible, and every day seeing more and more Albertans immunized. We have doses this weekend, but still need more vaccine.
We’ll keep expanding our approach as more doses arrive.

I’ve recently heard lots of questions about why we’re not holding back all second doses of the COVID19 vaccine. This is important, so let me explain. 1/6
We are trying to protect as many Albertans as possible, while still accounting for second doses as deliveries arrive. This allows us to use our limited supply to reach more people sooner with early protection, while still making sure that everyone gets a second dose. 2/6
Studies on the vaccine show that 14 days after the first dose, on average, 92% of people are protected from getting sick with COVID-19 for the next several weeks.
The second dose is still necessary & everyone will be offered one. (3/6)
Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB numbers: Over the last 24 hrs we have identified 785 new cases & completed about 13,500 tests. Our positivity rate is about 5.5%. (1/4)
There are 796 people in hospital, including 124 in ICU. Sadly, 13 new deaths were reported over the past 24hrs. My condolences go to the families, friends & anyone mourning the loss of a loved one today. (2/4)
Although we’ve seen a decline in transmission, our health-care system is still at risk. Please continue to follow current health measures this weekend & gather only with people in your household. (3/4)
Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Transitioning between online & in-person learning isn’t easy. I want to recognize the efforts & flexibility of teachers/ staff, students & families. We have what it takes to keep students safe in school & can do it again. (1/6)
We have received feedback from parents, education stakeholders & others that the categories of alert, outbreak & watch are confusing. Starting Mon., the watch category will be removed from reporting of COVID-19 cases in schools & replaced w/specific number ranges. (2/6)
An alert will apply to schools w/1-4 cases. There will be two categories of outbreaks – 1 for schools w/5-9 cases & 1 for 10+ cases. This is a change in terms only, it does not change the support AHS provides schools or the contact tracing & other work that is conducted. (3/6)
Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Over the last 24hrs, we have identified 875 new cases & completed almost 16K tests. Our positivity rate is about 5.3%. There are 820 people in hospital, incl 137 in ICU. (1/8)
Sadly, 23 new deaths were reported last 24 hours. They ranged in age from 48 to 96 – men and women whose passing leaves a hole in the lives of those who cared for them. I extend my sympathy to each person who is walking through grief right now, no matter the cause. (2/8)
For months, I have been saying that we’re all in this together. I know for many this is wearing thin.
For many this is the most challenging moment of the pandemic. Few of us have lived through a time of adversity akin to what we are experiencing now. (3/8)
Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: AHS has been working hard to expand contact tracing capacity & are now reaching out within 24hrs to all high-priority cases incl school-aged children, healthcare/critical response & long-term care workers. (1/6)
With more contact tracers & fewer cases we’re reducing the # of cases w/unknown exposure. About 47% of active cases have an unknown source – down from about 80% Dec. 10-15. We’re making progress & continue to build capacity. (2/6)
Over the last 24 hours, we have identified 652 new cases of COVID-19 & completed about 9.3K tests. Our positivity rate is at 6.8%. 819 ppl are in hospital, incl 132 in ICU. (3/6)
Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Over the last 24 hrs we have identified 639 new cases of COVID-19 & and completed about 9,800 tests. Our positivity rate is at 6.1%. There are 811 people in hospital, incl 130 in ICU. (1/8)
Sadly, 23 new deaths were reported. My deepest condolences go to the family and friends of these individuals. We will resume reporting on school cases later this week. Our overall numbers underline the importance of the immunization program that is underway. (2/8)
Canada has one of the most robust regulatory systems for new vaccines in the world. Clinical trials with tens of thousands of participants from multiple countries found no safety concerns w/ the vaccines we are administering. We are not taking that for granted. (3/8)
