Lennon's last act of political activism was a statement in support of the minority sanitation workers in San Francisco on 5 December 1980. He and his wife (Ono) planned to join the workers' protest on 14 December

At the age of 40,Dec8 1980 lennon was assassinated by gunshot. Ono(his wife) issued a statement the next day, saying "There is no funeral for John, John loved & prayed for the human race,Please do the same for him”.

Ono scattered his ashes in NewYork's Central Park,wer the Strawberry Fields memorial was later created.Following his demise,his albums“imagine & happy Xmas” hit No.1 & No.2 in Jan as an example of public outpouring of grief & his tribute album“Jealous Guy" also hit No.1 in UK.

His legacy has been followed by his wife Ono & Over $400,000 have been given through BMI Foundation's John Lennon Scholarships to talented young musicians in the United States commomerating his memory & creative innovations every year!
