Pundits: The fact that Ossoff and Warnock are unlikely to both win their elections means Joe Biden needs to court Republican votes rather than push a much-needed progressive agenda

*Ossoff and Warnock win handily*

Pundits: Ah. Nevertheless,
The only way political reporting in this country makes sense is if you understand that the almost universal, almost subconscious default assumption: that conservative white people are the protagonists of any story that's being told, no matter the facts of the story.
Just do the obvious and necessary good things and let the horrid evil people who hate good things squeal and cry about it forever.
I really need Democrats who will state the clear and obvious truth, which is that Republicans are our enemies, because they insist on attacking the very idea of a shared society and are more than happy to use violence to do it, which is the very definition of an enemy.
You can't make people who want to kill you not be your enemies even if you wish they'd be your friend.

They can stop trying to kill you, but until that happens they are your enemy, and acknowledging that fact isn't what makes that fact true.
Here's what I want to do to my enemies: Make sure all their basic human needs are secured as fundamental human rights, and make sure they're guaranteed equal protection under just laws fairly applied.

To accomplish this, we must refuse to entertain their beliefs about anything.
Here's what I want to do to my enemies: Make sure their children have access to free education that allows them to explore their potential, and make sure that when they get ill they receive free care.

To accomplish this, we must refuse to entertain their beliefs about anything.
Here's what I want to do to my enemies: demolish our white supremacist fascist police state, so they never fall victim to the brutality it has been engineered to deliver to its own citizens.

To accomplish this, we must refuse to entertain our enemies' beliefs about anything.
We tried conservatism. It led to an almost collapsed state, reeling from self-inflicted damage, controlled by malicious fools, on the edge of a host of terrifying but embarrassingly preventable disasters.

It failed. It's a failed philosophy. It's done.

It should be destroyed.
Conservatives: If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?

Every argument against raising the minimum wage involves pointing to some other part of our broken system as if it were a beloved cultural treasure to defend rather than just the next unacceptable thing that needs fixing.
“How is it fair to pay people making minimum wage $30k a year when high school teachers start at that?” as if stagnant wages for teachers were an unrelated matter; don’t worry, Bill, we’ll get to it.
Everyone should have the means to survive and thrive and if the current system doesn't provide for that then nuts to the current system; we shouldn't work for it, it should work for us.

Of all the things I posted during these nightmare years, the one that sticks with me most is the one essayed by a far greater writer than me.

William Shakespeare, “The Stranger’s Case”
And the quote that has occurred to me most often:
The quote that has been my bell-weather and lighthouse. Image

All the bizarre and horrifying things he did are going to come back to us at random moments like half-remembered scraps of dreams. Trump poses in the Oval Office with an envoy from North Kore
"Am I wrong or did the president of the United States sit behind a truck just like a big boy and make honk honk sounds? Was that a real one or did I just ... OK he did? He did. Good. OK." Trump sits behind a truck like a big boy and makes honk honk
Now listen am I off here or did Trump make the joint chiefs pose for a fake situation room photo after all the shit was unplugged and make them pretend he was part of the successful op against Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi while they all looked like they'd swallowed a live cat—he did! OK. Trump makes the joint chiefs pose for a fake situation room

Two hour conference call with Christian Interviews leadership team and sign printers on when to stop the hyphens on “m- - - - - bators.”
“Jebediah I appreciate your perspective but I just think that writing “bators” is also an abomination unto THE LORD so maybe take a prayerful look into the matter and add that 6th hyphen.”

74 million people desperately wanted to see 4 more years of this absolutely suicidal madness and brutality and incompetence and this terrifying humiliating degradation of all our finer aspirations for ourselves, and they also want to be taken very seriously by the rest of us.
Honestly if you’re still a Republican how have you not perished of shame. Honest question, honestly curious, how are you not simply dead of shame.
I’m just sitting here wondering what we do knowing that over 70m Americans are too either 1) disconnected from reality or 2) comfortable with/enthusiastic about cruelty to be trusted around a plastic spork much less children or traffic.

$1400 checks because there were already $600 checks is the most Democrats thing ever. They’ll give more than previous amounts but still manage to make it look like they’re giving less to gain absolutely no advantage. They could have made them $6,000. Or $12,000.
Providing all the practical procedural reasons Democrats are doing the self-defeating thing as if those are insurmountable challenges is also the most Democrats thing ever.

As if $2k isn't just a random number anyway itself not nearly enough.
$2k is the just number being talked about because Trump floated it. Don't talk $2k in the first place—talk higher—but at *least* don't undershoot it.

Americans need to be given money in order to survive this pandemic. Goddam it make it happen or be seen fighting for it.
