If you can't sustain a minimum wage increase to....... $15 an hour, holy shit what a joke, close it down, and stop taking advantage of people.
My business has been at $18 since I started it three years ago and to see the many businesses like mine that fought $15, Yes, I remember each one, and they all still suck to this day. They all had to be forced to do it by law. They were never going to do it on their own.
It's all talking points to keep people poor and programmed into thinking that's all they're worth and that's all they are worth. Fuck that shit and fuck the rich who push that idea.
Lobbyists in this industry like @WeRRestaurants have been paid millions/billions to keep pay low in favor of pushing up big chains and hospitality brands. They're fucking scam artists.
And then @WeRRestaurants pushes out bad information and threatens people saying they're big Mac or fries will a dollar more and that's a breaking point. Fuck you and your dollar, it costs a lot less for those companies to actually raise wages.
What stops the progress is chatter like that and the pressure to make investors happy while treating people like they're disposable. Minimum wage? Oh right this way and keep it that way. Get fucked.
Large chains, like @shakeshack, have thrived during the pandemic, and will continue to do so. They'll even add bonus of shitting on culture by appropriating terrible sandwiches at the same time.
Latinos and Black people have been decimated by supply and demand for chain restaurants and fast food. Meat cutters, restaurant workers, janitors, housekeepers, while white investors/managers are walking out with security and life. This is the cost to keep cheap food cheap.
Small restaurants and the coveted talking point "mom and pop" are not all the same but we are supposed to operate under the same blanket with those assholes. Do you research and spend your money where it actually does something for your community, not theirs.
Next time you see a press release or story about a big chain doing mediocre shit don't even share it or talk about it. It helps them. Fuck them.
"oh look it's a something that you can find in a freezer aisle or something that's been done a thousand times by someone else ohhhhhhh" not important. Mediocre. Gross.
Here's the thing. It's easy to hear people say how things can't be done. That's mediocre listening. Find people that say things that are the norm, understand/learn, and help them push it forward. It's better for everyone to be paid more especially from the depths of minimum.
Restaurateurs that race to reopen when they are allowed to are most likely places that pay their people like shit. Keep that in mind when you see it. A tip system doesn't mean you pay people it means it's subsidized by the diner. A true shit system for them to avoid paying.
And somehow, workers being paid minimum wage are essential workers too. Guaranteed the only thing they'll get out of all of this is a lifetime coupon to eat shit.

Last year I was ready and made a push for a James Beard award. I felt like what we were doing at @addoseattle was unique, different, and s game changer.
I saw who was getting nominated, how they were getting nominated, and put a plan together. There is a PR person here that prided herself on having connections so I hired her and spent thousands.
I felt like that was one of the last steps I would need but I failed to realize that she also had to make sure her current clients were nominated as well.

My restaurant is the only restaurant in Seattle that serves Puerto Rican food. Yup. Growing up in Olympia then working my way up I-5 to finally be in a position to open a restaurant has been insane.
However, this lechoncito project within my restaurant that has multiple concepts wouldn't be able to stand by itself as its own concept. Why? There really isn't demand for Puerto Rican food in Seattle.
Sure, everyone has their ideas of it. They vacationed there once or twice, lived on the east coast, are actually Puerto Rican or Latino or just like the food, etc.... But, doing this in Seattle is really different.

Hello and welcome back to another edition of - Your Idea Sucks and Here's Why - Today I'll be talking about the idea of moving restaurants outside and why that idea sucks.
I've been reading a bunch of stories and reading people's comments about how to reopen restaurants and one dumb idea that is constantly being brought up is close down the streets and let the restaurants restaurant in the streets!
I like the idea of closing down the streets for other things like parks, riding bicycles, and moving cars that just sit around forever. Give people back the space! Yup agree there.

I've had a lot of people reaching out to me about situations at their restaurants. Some horrifying. An example- restaurant closed, laid everyone off, the employees made a gofund me, the restaurant told them they couldn't use the restaurant's name in the GoFundMe.
Here's the GoFundMe. gofundme.com/f/virgil-villa…
So then the restaurant signs onto a sponsored thing by @MakersMark to do restaurant relief for workers. Meanwhile, the staff is left out in the cold. leeinitiative.org/#la
