Like most of us, Amanda Gorman has been cooped up in her West #LosAngeles apartment because of the pandemic.

Unlike most of us, she got some very exciting news recently: she’d been handpicked to read a poem at President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Gorman, all of 22, became the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles at age 16 in 2014 and the first National Youth Poet Laureate three years later.

Come Wednesday, she will be the youngest poet to recite her work at a presidential inauguration.

The incoming first lady, Jill Biden, was a fan of her work, and convinced the inaugural committee Gorman would be a perfect fit.

Gorman has written her poem in pandemic-induced solitude. While writing “The Hill We Climb” — which should take about 6 minutes to read — the poet listened to music that helped put her “in a historic and epic mind-set."

Gorman also wrote her poem while watching pro-Trump extremists storm the U.S. Capitol, a scene she found “jarring and violating” but not surprising.

“I think we’d seen the signs and symptoms for a while,” she said.

Gorman is working on her confidence as a public speaker as she grapples with a speech impediment.

The poet, who has performed in front of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hillary Clinton & Malala Yousafzai, struggled for years not to say “poetwy.”

Disney pulled the plug on its annual pass program.

Executives promise there will be alternative offerings in the future, but they haven’t yet offered details.

@hugomartin and @Toddmartens explain what you should know: latimes.com/business/story…
What will happen to people who had annual passes?

People who paid for annual passes that lasted beyond the parks’ closure in March are to receive automatic refunds for the days the parks were shut. latimes.com/business/story…
Why would Disney end the program?

“On a per-visit basis, the annual pass holders don’t make a lot of money for the park,” said John Gerner, a theme park expert. “When they had excess capacity it made sense. Now they don’t have that capacity.” latimes.com/business/story…

Streaming platforms like HBO Max and Disney+ are struggling with a phenomenon known as “churn"

Our pal @RFaughnder explains.
latimes.com/entertainment-…
Let's say you sign up for HBO Max to watch “The Flight Attendant.” You eventually finish the series, and you browse for your next binge-viewing fix.

That's when the clock starts ticking.

Because the services are so easy to cancel, they are seeing a lot of people leave.

A survey found that 46% of respondents canceled at least one in the last year. That's not all the survey found:

Ahead of the Oscars, we talked to some big names in entertainment.

George Clooney was pretty up-front about what it's like to be in acting 😮🎞️🎥
latimes.com/entertainment-…
“This idea of the impostor syndrome, it’s real with every actor,” said Clooney, who directed “The Midnight Sky.” “Because to be successful at any level in this industry means that you’re beating such huge odds.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
"I grew up cutting tobacco in Kentucky for $3 an hour," Clooney said. "Most people don’t get to do what they love for a living.... If we ever get to the position where we think it’s owed to us, then we should get out of the business" latimes.com/entertainment-… Image
