AN UPDATE ON CORONAVIRUS VACCINES IN WALES 👇 (a thread)

As of 10pm last night, 151,737 people have had their first dose of the vaccine – 5% of the population.

We have mass vaccination centres, hospitals and GPs delivering vaccines.

More people are being vaccinated every week.
A huge amount of work is going on to make vaccines available as quickly and safely as possible.

We're mobilising doctors, nurses, military personnel, primary care practitioners, dentists and optometrists.

Volunteers are also being trained to help us deliver this programme.
We’re on course to offer vaccines to all frontline health and care workers, everyone living and working in care homes, and everyone over 70 by mid-February.

By spring, we'll vaccinate all over 50s and everyone at risk due to a health condition.
We’re not holding back any vaccines.

The Pfizer vaccine must be stored at ultra-low temperatures – at -70°C – in two special centres.

Once removed the vaccine lasts five days.
Every dose wasted is a vaccine which cannot be given to someone in Wales.

Less than 1% of the vaccines have not been used.

This is way below the wastage rates normally seen for vaccines.
We have more than 100 GP practices delivering vaccines.
That will rise to 250 by end of January.

GP-led clinics will be open evenings and weekends as vaccine supply increases.
We have 45 mass vaccination centres operating or due to open shortly. These will be offering the Pfizer vaccine.

Around 90% of them were open over the weekend.

As supply increases, more and more will be open for longer and seven days per week.
We will also be opening community vaccination centres, bringing together GPs, dentists and optometrists.

They will offer the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
We’re expecting a significant increase in Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines from this week.

We received around 45,000 doses in the first two weeks.
The vaccine figures in Wales are published by @PublicHealthW and can be found here 👇

The figures by health board are updated weekly (every Thursday) and are available in the ‘Vaccination’ tab.

For anyone waiting for their vaccine, you'll be invited by the NHS via phone, post or text when it's your turn – please don't contact your GP.

If you can't travel to the location provided, you'll be able to rebook at a more convenient site.
