this is such an incredible thread on why a lot of entertainment journalism looks the way it does. If a system incentivises mediocrity with the complicity of stars and their makers, mediocrity is what you’ll get.
on a side note, the censorship-of-streaming debate is ironic given how much OTTs love inflicting the same when it comes to journalists asking Qs. And these are folks we imagined to be different than legacy Bollywood. Bottom line is simple: everyone wants to control the narrative.
A major actor was told not to “bring politics in” while promoting their recent new show. They promptly told the platform that they’ll not dodge a question if a Qs about politics came up 👏🏼
This is obviously not to say that one won’t fight the influx of censorship on the web. Even if it’s a show as mortifying as #Tandav we ought to fight for its right to exist in the form and manner that it was envisaged and not give into the diktats of the Sangh parivaar. KBye.

Over the last few weeks, I spoke to those close to Rhea and Sushant Singh Rajput to put together this exhaustive account of the couple's life in the past year, how they met, fell in love and grappled with an illness they were compelled to keep a secret huffingtonpost.in/entry/rhea-cha…
Two months on, a concatenation of circumstances which make sense only in India in 2020 has turned the tragic death of one of India’s most luminous stars into an unseemly public humiliation of Chakraborty, where many blame her for Rajput's death huffingtonpost.in/entry/rhea-cha…
An upcoming election, Modi govt's urge to manage every event using central enforcement agencies and the media, and India’s ambient radiation of politics, misogyny and patriarchy have all played a role in fostering a public conversation seeped in toxicity huffingtonpost.in/entry/rhea-cha…
Hello everyone. Today I’m gonna tell y’all a thrilling story. Everyone gather around. This is the kinda drama that puts fiction to shame. On Friday, Nov 22, I was sitting on the recliners at the pool area at Goa Marriott. I had my IFFI tote bag that contained my MacBook Pro 💻
I got up to take a call. Must’ve gone about 10 feets. After call, a friend, who was sitting with me, took some staged candids (ofc!) because view was 😍 When we returned to our recliners, the tote bag had vanished😱I first laughed (*yahin kahin hoga*). Seconds later, I panicked.
We looked around. Many people had the same IFFI bag. None were mine. We alerted security who pretended to care and then said stuff like “it’s your carelessness sir.” I said it certainly is but maybe we could try and find it 😐They nodded noncommittally and went about their lives
