Anybody having lingering doubts about EU hauliers/drivers staying away and trade dropping off a cliff/shortages (unless UK finds needed infrastructure, modern fully interfaced IT, 5000 customs officers, 50,000 *experienced* customs agents in next couple of weeks 😳? ) Read on....
Truckers heading to the port of Dover once post-Brexit volumes recover could find themselves stuck for up to *20 days* in 70,000-long truck queue ( according to new modelling undertaken by Simul8.
It says if truck check-in times increase to 20 minutes at Dover,
which would put it in line with *non-EU member* (i.e.Belarussia) customs policy, a queue of 70,594 vehicles – equivalent to around *20 days’ delay* – could form. This would represent the port being at some 500% overcapacity

P.s. I needed to read that again....7,000 trucks nose to tail is approx 80 miles long....so 70,000 trucks would be 800 miles....this needs more investigation 😬

UK Border Force is being called on to vacate a temporary border control post at Ashford International Truck Stop & move to a permanent location as soon as possible.Private customs brokers claim “poorly trained” Border Force officers are unable to effectively carry out their role
causing truck congestion.
One source noted that because trucks waiting for paperwork to be finalised by Border Force are charged after two hours , drivers are looking for other nearby areas to park, including space reserved for private customs agency clients.
“This means our clients can’t get in to be served and are finding themselves turned away by police. In one instance a driver had to take an *80-mile round trip*,” the source said. “I do not blame the drivers, it is as frustrating for them as it is for us, because they have

This story yet another that makes me sad at what has been taken from us with it even being something the UK Gov is *proud* of

"I really must take my hat off to Brexit. It has had the revolutionary effect of transforming our best of both worlds into the best of no worlds"
Despite our British nationality, we were excluded from its democratic voting process.
Despite our commitment to the values & principles embodied by the European Union, we've now been excluded from it too. What amazes me the most? Nobody seems to care or be doing anything about it
I know *you* have tried @BritishInEurope but add this poor 19 year old as a yet another tragedy

Further indication of what I mean by further peaks of disruption & chaos around 1/4 & esp 1/7
The Port of Liverpool could face significant disruption & delays later this year amid staffing shortages & a predicted *12*-fold increase in number of sanitation checks needed on imports
New rules & regulations governing sanitation checks on food & other products coming into the port after Brexit will mean a significant increase in workload for staff.
The number of employees at Mersey Port Health, the body in charge of carrying out the checks, needs to more than
double from 15 to 34. However, significant demand for similarly skilled staff across the country, as well as the specific skillset required, is leading to a struggle to recruit them in time. A report submitted to Mersey Port Health Committee said that if staff were not recruited

When we had a [Brexit] deal, I thought, we're saved all the rigmarole and hassle, it'll work sweet as a nut, but it hasn't happened," says Mr Flannigan. Instead, he says, it feels like the clock's been turned back 30 years
People really don't have a "sweet as a nut" clue do they?
Yes "30 years" and worse ..because you are now outside the Single Market & "worse" outside the Customs Union too . You're now trading under conditions more like Belarussia into EU without the customs & logistical capacity to handle the volumes. Your business will most likely fail
This was always so ..regardless of the "deal" esp with "87% of Berwick Shellfish's £1.7m sales go to France, Spain and Germany"
Next....
"The real test for me is the next two to three weeks, as inventory is depleted and orders increase," says Mr Munro.
