NEW: McConnell believes Trump committed impeachable offenses, believes the attack on Capitol gives Rs a chance to purge the president

and...

McCarthy has asked colleagues if he should urge Trump to resign, is open to a censure

ALSO: Biden called McConnell yesterday and asked if Senate could dual track impeachment trial and cabinet confirmations.

Far from telling Biden he would not discuss the impeachment, McConnell said he would check with the parliamentarian and get back to Biden.
McCarthy has cycled through just what can be done about Trump, approached Hoyer about a censure and said he could deliver a lot of R votes.

But the deal was: Democrats had to back off impeachment.

I went to the RNC winter meeting but found a parallel universe.

But don't take my word for it

“This room, they’re in denial, and that’s on the record,” said @billpalatucci

One RNC member took an informal survey of which (closed-door) speaker committee members preferred -- @KristiNoem or @NikkiHaley

The answer? Noem, bc she didn't criticize Trump as Haley did
important to note: the RNC had become more activist-dominated before Trump.

But from ‘18 on, his campaign really made it Trumpy, because they intervened in state party conventions to ensure state parties all cooperated to head off any primary threat against him last year.

“Trump is a political David Koresh: He sees the end coming and wants to burn it all down and take as many with him as possible” - @kycatswin
What was striking to me re: shifting political calculations is how many Republicans who are on the ballot in 2022 said flatly it’s time for the party to move on from Trump:

Thune
Murkowski
Upton

And that’s just Wednesday night.

NEWS:

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was elected the 46th president of the United States on Saturday, promising to restore political normalcy....

with my pardner, @alexburnsNYT >

nytimes.com/2020/11/07/us/…
Seeking the nation’s highest office a half-century after his first campaign, Mr. Biden — a candidate in the late autumn of his career — presented his life of setback and recovery to voters as a parable for a wounded country.
Mr. Biden’s victory amounted to a repudiation of Mr. Trump by millions of voters exhausted with his divisive conduct and chaotic administration, and was delivered by an unlikely alliance of women, people of color, old and young voters and a sliver of disaffected Republicans.
