"The commentary from TV broadcasters across the board, all day long, was at times embarrassingly complimentary" -- The Washington Post's @Sulliview, with great understatement on yesterday's festivities and how the media covered them.

Sullivan adds it's understandable, but media dangers with Biden are clear:

"We run the risk of being seduced by an administration that, in many cases, closely reflects our values: multiculturalism, a belief in the principles of liberal democracy, and a kind of wonky idealism. "
In extremely related news, a new poll today finds "Trust in traditional media has declined to an all-time low....For the first time ever, fewer than half of all Americans have trust in traditional media."

Journalists in corporate outlets fully know that faith in their honesty has collapsed. They know they only talk to one Party.

Rather than examine what blame they bear for any of this, they instead:

1) Blame their critics.

2) Demand all competing/dissenting voices be censored.

The media incuriosity over why Washington continues to be utterly militarized, why none of the supposedly planned January 20 day violent protests at state capitols happened, and whether this threat is being exaggerated to justify the Draconian security proposals, is stunning.
Again, just six months ago, it was considered so taboo, so incident, to propose the deployment of the military on US streets to quell protests & riots that 2 NYT editors were *fired* just for airing (not endorsing) that view.

Now, militarize away.
Also there seems to be very little interest in whether the killing of an unarmed protester at the Capitol by an armed law enforcement agent -- shooting her point-blank in the neck despite her attacking nobody -- was justified.

Seems a long way away from ACAB.

Really enjoyed this whole discussion but this clip below highlights a sometimes-elusive but (to me) vital point about how free speech is being eroded: by completely distorting what it means to "incite violence" beyond all recognition:
There's a whole group of tribalistic cretins who no longer judge a person's ideology based on what they, you know, think, believe and advocate, but only based on 5th-grade-style screen shots of *where* you speak. How primitive must your brain be for that to be your metric?
But for people whose brains are in that arrested stage of development - where they only process Vox photos but not words or ideas - what do my appearances on the podcast of Bernie's Press Secretary, "The Left Bitches" & my own with a former Bernie organizer say about my ideology?

This person was literally the Communications Director for both the Bush/Cheney 2004 presidential campaign and White House, and now -- like her Bush WH colleague David Frum -- she lectures the country on the evils of disinformation & the need to ostracize & punish those who do it.
It's imperative for the Republic that we punish those who disseminate disinformation and ensure those who do it can never again be welcome in decent company.

After the break, I discuss this with my MSNBC colleague Nicolle Wallace and special guests David Frum & Bill Kristol.
If you call Nicolle Wallace, Joe Scarborough and John Brennan your "colleagues," and refer to Bill Kristol, David Frum and Jen Rubin as your "special guests," you have absolutely zero standing or credibility to rail against disinformation and demand "accountability."

Censorship, once you ratify its framework and legitimacy, will never be confined to the targets you dislikes.
I’ve accepted I’ll have to keep saying this until I die and I’m at peace with that:

Censorship is never directed only to right or the left. It’s for anything deemed threatening dissent an impediment to ruling class pieties.

Only conformity & benign opposition are permitted.
So much politics now is going to be pleading like this with unseen Silicon Valley censors to realize their error and hope that “appeals” — with no transparency or rules — exhibit mercy and restore the person’s ability to be heard on often-indispensable-for-work tech monopolies:

Oh gosh, I hope this doesn't mean the magnitude of the threat has been wildly exaggerated for political gain, media excitement and ratings, censorship orgies, and laying the foundation for a new fear-driven Domestic War on Terror to control politics and information.
Hey dude, where's my insurrection?
In reply to these 2 tweets, liberal domestic Terror warriors are telling me I'll have to delete the tweets if any other people die from right-wing violence.

There were mass-causality attacks after 9/11, too, but that didn't vindicate the Cheney/Kristol exaggeration of the threat

Dems ordered Silicon Valley monopolies to remove Parler. They obtained. That forced Parler to use a Russian company for hosting.

Now, Dem @RepMaloney wants to investigate Parler for Russia ties, and the WPost article includes this:

Is an American citizen now deemed by Democrats of suspect loyalties if they have a Russian spouse? The reason Parler is using a Russian service is because DEMS FORCED Apple, Amazon & Google to cut them off - now want to investigate them for it:

washingtonpost.com/technology/202…
Here's the letter of @RepMaloney -- Chair of the powerful House Oversight -- demanding the FBI investigate a US citizen, the founder of Parler, for ties to Russia, citing - among other things - that his wife is Russian.

Xenophobic, McCarthyite madness:
