New @PressSec is about to host a press briefing at 4 PM ET. In keeping with their commitments to transparency, I hope @jrpsaki & staff:
-Tweet stream from @WhiteHouse:
-Fix /live
-Tweet link to transcript & archived video after each one
-Tweet every EO
Dr. Fauci is about to speak on the state of pandemic & vaccines & take questions.
I could get used to this.
Fauci:
–400,000+ deaths is historic in a very bad sense
–Rate of new infections remains very high; hospitalizations high
–Cautions of lags in reporting, while average may suggest plateau
–UK mutation of COVID is 2X transmissible, but is not more virulent
Fauci:
–Viruses don't mutate if they don't replicate. If you can suppress that with a good vaccination campaign, you can present the deleterious consequences
–Vaccines continue to appear effective about
THIS: "if you don't know the answer, don't guess. Just say you don't know"
. @kwelkernbc pushed Fauci about POTUS saying there was no plan
–He declined to criticize & said there's activity in the distribution side
–Look at the plan Biden put out -- community centers, pharmacies – & appropriate use of DPA
–Still sets mid-2021 goal for vaccination
–This @WhiteHouse sign language interpreter is wonderfully expressive
–Fauci says hope to increase vaccine production & availability; 3rd vaccine candidate coming
–In answer to @jeffmason1, Fauci says need to look into discrepancy at states; would be disturbing if lying around
It's interesting to hear @shearm asked about evidence of bipartisanship by this President 2 weeks after a majority of the opposing party tried to overturn the election, many of whom have yet to recognize his legitimacy or apologize for lying, & as the Senate prepares for a trial
Now @PressSec is declining to take a position on when @POTUS supports eliminating the filibuster; Biden declined to answer that question prior to the election as well.
She said she will have "to circle back" on DC statehood, too.
It's a good sign to see @POTUS account used to retweet the @WHCOVIDResponse account & full text of to policy.
The more this @WhiteHouse can both narrate & "show its work" to a deeply skeptical public, the better. (Next level: solicit & be responsive to our questions, build FAQ.)

I’ve been looking at who the new @WhiteHouse accounts follow & have concluded that @TwitterGov has made a hash of how it’s labeling official US government accounts & campaign accounts.
Some are labeled, some are @verified, & some are neither.
The Wild West of federal social media needs to come to an end. @AjitPai should not have left service with access to a US government asset that grew in value over time & use it personally. (@AmbNikkiHaley couldn’t!) @FCCChair & Speaker institutional accounts should be like @POTUS.
This is why I have advised journalists for a decade not to put their media organizations in their handles (@-johndoeAP etc) because an employer might argue it’s an asset.
it’s even clearer in .gov with @FCC in the handle; claiming it’s personal now doesn’t pass the smell test.
He says
-will focus on judiciary & @TheJusticeDept
-will be time to ask about 25th Amendment
-yesterday was one of darkest days in the history of our nation
Biden: An unprecedented assault on our democracy.
An assault literally on the citadel of liberty: the @USCapitol itself.
An assault on the rule of law.
On the most sacred of American undertakings: ratifying the will of the people in choosing the leadership of their government.
Biden: All of us here grieve the loss of life.
Grieve the desecration of the People's House.
But what we witnessed yesterday was not dissent, not disorder.
It was not a protest.
It was chaos.
They weren't protestors.
They were a riotous mob.
Insurrectionists.
Domestic terrorists.
The House & Senate should have procured & issued N95 masks months ago, & the attending physician of Congress should have ensured they use them. nytimes.com/2020/05/16/us/…
Now @CongressmanJVD is having the same problem, & had the Speaker of the House remind him to pull up his mask.
Hanging out at 11:35 ET on Capitol Hill, watching @VP preside over a Joint Session of Congress reconvene on @cspan to count votes, after the House joined the Senate in voting to reject an objection to Arizona’s electoral votes: c-span.org/video/?507663-…
Democracy back in action.
Objection by @mtgreenee was in writing, but did not have the signature of a Senator, so @VP read the US Code, & moved on.
She was heard, but did not gain support.
Gotta say, tonight might be one @Mike_Pence's finest moment.
Make good governance boring again!
Objections from Alabama Member to certification of the vote of Nevada.
It was in writing, but no US Senator joined in the effort
{applause}
The objection cannot be entertained, & on we go.
Today, the President of the United States kept telling
absurd lies & refused to concede.
He incited acts of domestic terrorism.
Members of the @Cabinet should be quietly considering the 25th Amendment.
The House should open an impeachment inquiry, @RepJerryNadler@SpeakerPelosi
An inquiry is not a conviction.
It is the first, necessary step for Congress to hold a corrupt President willing to lie & incite his partisans to overturn an election accountable.
He incited a mob towards an insurrection that breached the @uscapitol, disrupting a Joint Session.
"With his incitement of a direct assault on the people’s house, [Trump] has forfeited his claim to finish his term. The House must…impeach him, & the Senate must vote to remove him. And as it does so, …bar him from ever again serving in public office." theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…?
