Graham just told Hannity that if the Senate GOP has the votes to dismiss the new impeachment article, House managers shouldn't be allowed to make their case and the article should be dismissed. If they *don't* have the votes, he says Trump gets weeks to prepare. See how it works?
Graham also—though he's a former prosecutor—said it was astonishing that in America a man would be indicted before he has a lawyer.

Fun fact: almost everyone in America who gets indicted gets indicted before they have a lawyer.

So why is a lawyer lying to America about the law?
I normally wouldn't mention this because I don't really care, but I have to say that Graham looked manifestly unwell during his appearance on Hannity just now. He looked pale and withdrawn and honestly a little bit like a vampire. I just don't know what is going on with that man.
I hope it won't surprise anyone that I'm very much in favor of Trump being given time to prepare for his impeachment trial. That's entirely appropriate. But unlike Graham, I don't believe a vote to dismiss the article can be taken until after the House managers finish their case.
I strongly believe that lawyers like me and Graham should be *guardians* of the integrity of our system of justice. I may strongly dislike Trump, but he deserves time to prepare his defense. Meanwhile, Graham is a lawyer acting like a lobbyist paid to undermine the law by Trump.
(PS) I admit it was a difficult call to support immediate Senate action prior to the end of Trump's term. My thinking at the time was that if Congress and federal law enforcement had intelligence establishing that Trump was a national security threat, they had to act immediately.

We learned tonight that Trump, in the weeks before his insurrection, had a plan to install both a new Attorney General and a new CIA director who were political pawns, even as another story just published reveals the Pentagon was being controlled behind the scenes by a third pawn
Someone tell me why you would need, as an outgoing president who claims he's the rightful winner of the last election, to control the DOJ, the Pentagon, and the CIA as you're aggressively advertising a march on Congress and your top advisors are advising you to impose martial law
It should be abundantly clear that that last tweet was a rhetorical question

WASHINGTON POST (1/19): Federal Law Enforcement Uncovers Massive Early-January Plot to Murder All of Congress; Plotters with Military Backgrounds, Who Had Trained to "Storm the Capitol," Planned to Gas Members of Congress in the Tunnels Beneath the Capitol washingtonpost.com/local/legal-is…
1/ While some members of the criminal conspiracy just uncovered wanted to execute "arrests" for "treason"—defined by the plotters as any meeting to certify Biden's victory—others clearly sought murder, planning to "seal" members of Congress underground and then "turn on the gas."
2/ "A ring of dozens coordinated their movements as they 'stormed the castle' to disrupt the confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral college victory."

According to the Washington Post, as many as 30 or 40 plotters may have been involved in the January 6 operation.

(PROOF) Yes—Trump had achievements. I enumerate them here.

If you find yourself agreeing, I hope you'll consider subscribing to PROOF.

(PS) One achievement I didn't mention is that Trump's aloofness to certain threats—born of venality and graft—correspondingly forced us to awaken to them.

We see Saudi Arabia more clearly; apprehend the danger from Russia properly; will exercise more caution in our friendship...
(PS2) ...with Israel; understand the fragility of the EU and our importance to it with greater sharpness; can visualize the dangers of a war with Iran in a way that might have been impossible had we not come so perilously close to one; feel compelled to clarify our intentions...

This must be fixed. Immediately. But the premise that it's the fault of both political parties is absurd. It's the fault of the one party—the Republican Party—that deliberately fomented an insurrection. That insurrection was what required the Guard to be in DC in the first place.
(PS) This said, the onus for fixing the problem is certainly on both parties. Part of the reason for that—besides the fact that the Democrats are now in their second day of running Washington—is that the GOP is presently a party of children who need Democratic adult supervision.
(UPDATE) The Democrats fixed it. As they fix every problem created by Republicans. Image

I think some people are under the impression that Trump's pardons/commutations weren't that bad. Look again:

Flynn
Stone
Manafort
Bannon
Broidy
Kushner's dad
Jeanine Pirro's ex-husband
Rep Cunningham (R)
Rep Renzi (R)
Rep Hunter (R)
Rep Hayes (R)
Rep Collins (R)
Rep Stockman (R)
(PS) My research indicates Eric and Ivanka had no clear need for a pardon. Don had reason to think he didn't need one due to the Mueller Report. Trump was convinced a self-pardon would be invalidated. The only surprise omissions were Giuliani and Prince—and they can be explained.
(PS2) Trump was, by mid-January, livid at Giuliani for failing to overturn the election, and was refusing to pay Rudy's legal bills. Prince is—for now—only facing a referral for lying to Congress that DOJ hasn't acted upon. His other crimes Trump doesn't want to list in a pardon.

(PROOF) As a Trump presidential biographer, I published three bestselling books about the Trump administration. Now I'm taking a look forward at what comes next for Trump. This article is for full subscribers to PROOF—so I hope you'll consider subscribing! sethabramson.substack.com/p/four-possibl…
PS/ Some wonder, should we care what Trump does next? Answer: yes. He's the head of the GOP. He'll decide who the 2024 GOP candidate is. He may end the GOP via a third party. He may run for POTUS in 2024. He may continue to foment insurrection. He could start a political dynasty.
PS2/ Moreover, everyone agrees that Trumpism will continue; will define the GOP; and that Trump is its fount. So as much as we'd like to say he'll never again be relevant to us, the extraordinarily sad truth is that he remains more relevant than any ex-president of our lifetimes.
