1. Upon Abacha’s death, he became the de facto Military President of Nigeria from June 1998 to May 1999.

Many of you don’t see Abdulsalami Abubakar as the BIGGEST & the most IMPORTANT SILENT OPERATIVE in & around the corridors of power, since 1999.
2. Each time there was a crisis of succession, or threat to the seat of power, who does the presidency look up to, to broker peace? He persuaded Jonathan to concede defeat in 2015. Buhari will always listen to Abdulsalami.
3. A clever man, the man in grey mustache is. He made a promise in 1999, while handing over power to Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said & I quote - “I will never belong to any FOLITICAL FATTY (in his native tongue)”

He has kept that promise to this day.
4. But who do you really think holds Aso Rock together, pulling all the strings from behind the curtain, since 1999? A retired General, a smart man. He released all of Abacha’s prisoners, including OBJ.

Abdulsalami was right there beside Abacha; from December 1993 – June 1998,
5. as Abacha’s Chief of Defense Staff. He did not seize power for himself, he strove for Nigeria’s greatness. I am sure he kept part of Abacha’s spoils tucked away somewhere. Who wouldn’t??😀
6. But posterity can & will always remember him for that singular act of benevolence, clemency & a sense of patriotism as historians see it nowadays.

A general who became a civilian, the civilian who became the closest confidant of Aso Rock. 🥂 to the smartest politician EVER!!!
Well, just to be clear, “this mini thread is centered on Abdulsalami Abubakar’s prowess around the corridors of power, his ability to navigate the murky waters in & around Aso Rock.

He is the unseen finger pressing all the right buttons. His LOOT is a story for another day.”😅😅

1. Forget the ₦5000, you won’t get it.

They know the people they are targeting. It’s almost always towards the general elections. They know election is in 2 years & Prof Yemi Osinbajo has to resume the TradeMoni (VOTE BUYING), only this time, it is ₦5000 no more ₦10,000.
2. A country that hid your palliatives in hidden warehouses, can NEVER get you out of poverty. Later they’ll increase petrol price, VAT & hike electricity tariff. Pls forget Osinbajo.

₦5000 to 20m Nigerian is ₦100 billion. How much is ASUU asking for?
3. How much will it cost to be build 36 Primary Health Care Centers in each state & the FCT?

If they truly mean well & they aren’t looking to embezzle or buy votes for 2023, isn’t it better they use the money for healthcare & education?

1. Well, you don’t pay for most things in full in America. You’ve got car payment, health insurance, mortgage etc.

You pay for all these on a monthly. You are almost living on credit, but you enjoy quality life.
2. When you can no longer pay the mortgage, the bank repossess your house in foreclosure. When you miss your payments for a good number of months, you can either refinance your mortgage or sell.
3. But when you are out of options with bills & debts piled up & can no longer earn, you file for bankruptcy.

The thing is bankruptcy messes with your credit rating, it puts your credit score in a very bad shape. It tells lenders that you are not credit worthy.

1. Don’t tell me your value. Show me your budget & I’ll tell you your value — Joe Biden.

Biden will make history as the oldest person to lead the United States. While Kamala Harris will equally say “Hi” to history, as the first woman of color to become Vice President. ImageImage
2. So we are witnessing history of “two firsts.” Wonderful, isn’t it? I’m happy Biden has put together a great team reflecting what the United States is known for, DIVERSITY!!

The team will be the first with “people of color” having the majority. ImageImage
3. The team equally have 50:50 representation of both gender

Trump will depart the White House at 8am. He will give himself an elaborate departure. He won’t be attending the inauguration. He’s pardoned more of his aides on the eve of his departure, more than a 100 people so far. ImageImage

1. Museveni declaring himself winner, shouldn’t be a breaking news at all. I noticed all the major news outlets are saying the dictator WON. Did he actually win or he DECLARED himself winner a record 6th time? He has spent 35 years on the saddle already.
2. By the time he completes another 5 years, he would be 81 & would have spent 40 years in power. Ugandans are faced with another 5 years of uncertainty & wandering about in the bush. And this is 2021, one would think the likes of Abacha, Idi Amin, Mobutu Sese Seko are no more.
3. But it’s an Africa story - strong dictatorships perpetuate themselves in office, with aid from colonialists.

For what it's worth, Bobi Wine is a worthy challenge. Museveni didn’t see that coming. In a continent no single leader condemned Museveni for clamping down opposition

In search of “messianic figure,” don’t sell the sun to buy a candle.

1. In my opinion, “activists don't necessarily need to hold elected offices.” There’s a reason they are called activists. They are more resourceful outside the corridors of power, holding government to account.
2. For instance, no empirical data says someone like Aisha Yesufu can make a better president. Politicians thrive in their game because, it is their stock-in-trade to tell lies & twists facts. Some hailing Aisha Yesufu today, will be the ones crucifying her in office tomorrow.
3. For me, I’ll rather have her credentials intact the way it is.

So what are my trying to say? — “Nigeria does not need a Bobi Wine or a Sowore in the real sense.”

Museveni was once a revolutionary. Most bad people usually set out as revolutionists.

1. I really dislike labels & cancellations.

I think we’ve beaten around issues, for far too long. Yes Sowore supported Buhari in 2015, but he’s consistently opposed Buhari’s tyranny & maladministration. For me, that’s enough.

Age shouldn’t be a LIMITER for choosing a president. ImageImageImageImage
2. Look at George Weah today. He is young (at least in the African context), he achieved everything in soccer but failing in leadership.

George Weah became the monster he once criticized. Atiku supported Buhari with cash & a private jet in 2015.
3. But for me, I’ll rather look beyond all of that & rather focus on his achievements with Obasanjo. Judge Atiku on that, & the things he wants to do.

Bobi Wine is another young, energetic revolutionist. The future of Africa is bright with more young people going into politics.
