I don't think there is a single person in this corner who isn't shaking their head right now about what the hell actually went down regarding the last minute declass by President Trump.
I've run a number of theories thru my head the past couple days which I'll lay out here.
Before I do there are a few contexts to lay out for background:
Trump originally declassed most of this 2 1/2 years ago, during the still rosenstein era.
But that was constantly walked back because of meh Mueller, rosenstein, and Barr.
Important: What finally resulted in the last memo finally declassifying the docs.... happened post Barr...dec 30, 2020 demand.
Obviously a substantial amount of docs were eventually declassified BUT NOT made available to the public. So far only John Solomon claims to even have them.
Which is odd. The common practice is a) declass b) give to Congress c) Congress give sneak peek to preferred outlet d) docs posted publically.
That didn't happen. Thus far the docs are buried except for a tiny amount Solomon has released thus far. And unfortunately solomon has a really poor record of answering anyone's legitimate questions outside of "the club"
So here is the rub. Why is this declass manifesting in this manner? Here are 5 theories. Please add your own:
1) Its just a mismanaged $hitshow.
Trump felt he had to fulfill his promise and no one around him really thought it through. Someone leaked the binder to solly and never even bothered with actually seeing to it the materials were publically posted.
2) Impeachment 2.0
The materials actually do have some real juice, but it's release will really po the swamp. In light of the pending impeachment they opted for a controllable slow roll ootion.
3) Damage Control:
They finally got the docs. Some were good, equally some were bad. This made a selective leak the better option.
4) Nothingburger:
The docs were mildly interesting but nothing new. Better to let a news outlet milk exclusive info for months than unload a giant fizzle all at once.
5) Setting the table:
Trump wanted stuff out. Durham (assuming he's altruistic) wasn't quite there yet. Compromise is to get it declassed and control the outflow setting the table for coming moves.
Interested for other better theories?
End.

I think Andrew Weissman and a couple others on the Mueller team are going to be indicted.
That's why Barr is leaving early on Dec 23.
I think Durham has told him he is going there. I think that's the real reason he was designated a SC. Because he's basically going to be prosecuting people who were technically DOJ.
That's why Barr has to go early. Rosen wasn't installed until after RR left and the special counsel was over with, removing those possible conflicts.
Lee makes a salient point about how Halper and other CHS's seemed to be tasked with finding out if the trump campaign or other entities could have had HRC's deleted emails.
I think what many haven't quite digested yet is that Guccifer 2.0, served in the exact same capacity.
Meet Tim. @TimNaftali to be exact. CNN/NYU Historian?
More like Troll-Tim.
You see, Tim couldn't resist creating a fictitious troll account last fall. And then Tim used hos fake troll account to say really stupid things on Twitter that he was afraid to say himself:
What Tim didn't realize that some people are really good at detecting alt troll accounts. And when he got caught he panicked and tried to limit who could see his little quip.
If the doj wanted to actually restore an iota of credibility, Andrew Weissman will be Manaforted/Stoned this week.
I could give 2 F's if the eventual case could prevail in court or might be dropped by a new AG. Leaking pictures of the sick as hell stuff agents had to bag for the evidence room would enough for me.
Ex fbi folks feel free to chime in: what's the protocol if the gerbil is still alive?
That also means I confirmed his Correct linked in which is basically empty but does show his connection to relative (daughter or niece) and that he liked a RGB propaganda link.
That leaves more digging. I'm not gonna say one way or another but some of the "holes" I see here are very consistent with what is often seen with folks who did a stint with 3 letters.
