Had dinner at @Sofreh_Brooklyn last night, my favorite Iranian restaurant in America (and home to some of the best Ghormeh Sabzi, Kashk-e Bademjan, and Persian braised lamb this side of the Atlantic).
I see this place — its ambiance, its food, and the community it’s fostered — as a loving monument to our heritage in New York City. If eating outside is within your comfort zone, def pay them a visit.
Maybe you’ll happen upon the enchanting Nasim Alikhani, the restaurant’s founder, or her delightful brother Amir, another key pillar of the Sofreh family. (And if you don’t want to leave home, looks like they also do delivery now!)
My favorite menu items (pics are from a previous visit, but they are still my faves):
1) Kashk-e Bademjan (“Eggplant Dip with Whey” 2) Ghormeh Sabzi (“Persian herb stew”) 3) Lamb Shank 4) Tahini and Date salad
And for dessert:
Saffron rose water ice cream:
Also, jesus, I’ve been deprived of good barbari bread for years and @Sofreh_Brooklyn HAS FRESHLY BAKED BARBARI THAT TASTES LIKE THE AFTERLIFE EVERY SINGLE TIME
