Seeing the hashtag #REOPENSCHOOLS trending is hard thing to see.
I am guessing the majority who got this trending are because they support this one sided agenda.
Clearly they have not been in school during a global pandemic.
MPs can support this all they like, they do not support the majority of students across the UK.
Yes. Parents and students are struggling. Would I rather stay at home where I am safe from not catching the virus. Yes.
Are schools safe? Simple answer; No.
I am a student that is currently worried if I am able to get the grades to go my chosen university.
As a student, I have to see through this virus. Keeping your children off school had CLEARLY suppressed the curve, but the worst is not over year. This is hurdle number one.
Before schools reopen, there needs to be more clarification on the following:
1. A confirmed pathway for how grades are going to be decided with relevant evidence for all exam students.
2. University students need to have their voices heard. They are suffering just as much as exam students.
• Reduce tuition fees.
• Lower accommodation prices.
• Increase loan sizes.
• Work out how exams are to be marked.
3. Student mental health needs to become a priority.
Student support services both internally and externally are lacking funding. Prioritise those that need services. Make every student mental health aware. Make services easy to access.
Lastly, on 25th January 2021, coronavirus cases were at the lowest since 15th December.
Cases were rising after this. This is also an important date as schools were closing there gates for the final time.
Obviously something is working by keeping the schools closed.
