I'm getting very irritated at the "I don't get this GameStop thing" trend.
It's not complicated and has been explained 75,000 times in the space of less than a Tweet. Waste a literal minute of your day learning something.
PEOPLE BET ON A STOCK TO GO DOWN. OTHER PEOPLE DELIBERATELY BOUGHT THAT STOCK SO IT WOULD GO UP. FIRST GROUP LOST MONEY. SECOND GROUP MADE MONEY. Sheesh.
Obviously there's more to it than that but this is enough info for you to not have to broadcast that you don't know what it is.
Nah, it's the trend of people tweeting "wow I sure don't get this thing! Better go do some other stuff so I don't have to learn or care about this thing I sure don't understand! Isn't it weird how I don't get this?"
I'm saying this as someone who literally understands nothing about the market and opened a Robinhood account today. I'm not special. If I can invest a minute understanding the broad strokes of a big story, anyone can.

Just to prove my econ ignorance: I don't get why you can buy put options for stock you don't own. As a defensive hedge for your assets it makes sense, but as a pure gamble on a future price it feels very "stocks for stocks sake." I'm sure there's some obvious answer to this.
See this is my problem - I'm going to have to learn about econ now just to come back around to understanding this one thing. Thanks a lot, GameStop.
I don't research the bio of the author of every viral tweet I encounter. Also my name has 4 letters in it and you still managed to only spell it 75% correctly.
I'll keep saying this: That Amazon even has the power to erase you from the internet on a whim is the far bigger issue than whether or not they made the right call THIS TIME.
It's a bit like defending a violation of someone's Fourth Amendment rights by saying "but I found the murder weapon." Yeah, THIS TIME you did. "Hey we doxed the right person." Yeah, THIS TIME you did. What about next time? Or the 50 times after that?
Also as someone who said repeatedly that Trump being banned from Twitter was the one thing that could make Parler a viable alternative, it's awfully weird that Parler went bye bye the second that became a legitimate possibility. Just saying.
