The federal government just before the end of the year passed another big COVID-19 aid package, including a bunch of aid for schools.
Massachusetts is getting $800M, of which $733M is going right to districts.
It’s a federal grant through DESE, so that money goes straight to districts.

This budget language from Governor Baker says that the city or town can say “yeah, that federal aid you’re getting?"
"Rather than OUR paying for the increase in school operating costs that we’re REQUIRED to under state law for next year’s school budget...
"...we’re going to say that some of that federal aid you in the schools getting is our contribution."
