Andrew Neil claims that “British people are crying out for a news service that is more diverse and more representative of their values and concerns”
Whose concerns will it REALLY represent?
We investigate... /1
The best place to start is always an analysis of the economic base.
Does this match with the show’s focus on the concerns of the British people?
As you’ll see below, the two main funders are mega-rich New Zealand and US businessmen… /2
“Co-lead investor in GB News, is the New Zealand-born, Dubai-based Christopher Chandler”
“US media group Discovery Inc is the other co-lead investor. Its significant shareholder is John Malone, the libertarian and erstwhile Murdoch cable rival”
/3
So far we have hugely wealthy lovers of “free markets” with only a tenuous connection to Britain
Not a great start, is it?
How about the claim that GB News will be “proudly independent” and focus on “debate that embraces all voices and opinions across Britain”?
/7
This seems somewhat unlikely when ALL CONFIRMED STAFF SO FAR are right-wingers
GB News Chairman and lead presenter Andrew Neil made his name as Rupert Murdoch’s lackey at the Sunday Times
As editor of The Sunday Times Neil boasted that “Thatcher’s battles were our battles”
/8
As editor of the Sunday Times Neil was “a delirious sacker. He dumped so many people for being leftish”
And:
“Notoriously, refused to accept the consensus view of Aids, promoting the idea that this was a disease of gay men and drug addicts..."
Quote continues next tweet /9
"...attacking official advice that heterosexuals too were at risk”
Source: Davies, Nick., Flat Earth News
There's plenty of other evidence out there that Neil is a rabid right-winger (Spectator Chaiman, Iraq war), but what of the other lead recruits at GB News?
/10
"Chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos, a former boss of Sky News Australia"
"Rebecca Hutson who is joining as head of digital. The former Mail Online director of video will also appear on-air"
/11
We suppose it’s possible that a TV show funded by mega-rich free market devotees and staffed by ex-Murdoch, News Corp, Daily Mail right-wingers will be “impartial” and embrace “all voices and opinions”
Actually, no we don’t
/14
Still, at least lead man Andrew Neil is as British as they come:
“I get out of London as much as possible when Parliament is not sitting" Neil boasted in an Independent column on his French chateau.
It appears that only ONE claim by GB News so far is true
They will be “fearless in tackling the issues people care about, especially in communities outside of London”
As we've seen, the communities GB News will serve do indeed exist outside of London...
/17
With funding from wealthy investors in New Zealand and the US
Staffed by wealthy corporate journalists like Neil and Wootton, themselves part of globalised, jet-setting elite (Wootton is from New Zealand)
GB News will do the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it says it will...
/18
Rather than serving ordinary Britons, GB News WILL IMPOSE ON THEM the libertarian, free market perspectives conducive to members of a transnational, capitalist elite of which Andrew Neil is a part
The evidence is clear. It is in this thread.

Welcome to this week's #questionabletime, the thread that tells you everything about tonight's #bbcqt guests Fiona Bruce won't
Things like: that Conservative MP talking about how much she values the environment "Consistently voted against measures to prevent climate change"! 1/
Speaking of Vicky Ford...other highlights of her voting record include:
"Consistently voted against higher taxes on banks"
Why would someone who worked for JPMorgan Chase then Bear Stearns (reputable institutions!) take this position? 🤔 2/
