Bernie’s mittens: A lesson for S.F. high school students in subtle white privilege by Ingrid Seyer-Ochi via SF Chronicle Opinion

So, the first paragraph alone has red flags:
“... images of white men storming through the Capitol...”
White women have a tendency to distance ourselves from white men when it comes to white supremacy (despite white women very clearly storming the Capitol alongside white men).
I’m not sure how you can say you’re analyzing images of the insurrection and discussing white supremacy if you’re leaving out white women’s roles in this and white supremacy overall.
Anyway, moving on!
The symbolism behind the chosen attire was unity and seemingly a reference to women’s suffrage. That is worth discussing, absolutely.
But most people did not dress up in those fashions.
What you saw was a 79-year-old Jewish man sitting by himself, waiting for the inauguration of the new president, while trying to keep warm and social distance. That’s it.
Literally no one on the left is denying he has privilege. No one.
But the fact liberals—specifically white liberal women—are so caught up on how he wore a puffy coat over his suit is ridiculous. Why didn’t anyone get angry at Elizabeth Warren or Janet Yellen for doing the same?
It’s been almost two weeks and y’all are still mad about it, so let me just clear this up:
You’re not angry that Bernie wore a puffy coat and old mittens rather than a nice suit and tie, you’re just angry that people like him.

Real quick—in case you aren’t aware of what she’s apologizing for this time, here’s a 1-year-old article by @kelleent explaining it all. The article also provides examples of some glorious backlash she was receiving from Black twitter.
