So if I’m understanding the former-GOP types, we’re supposed to take:

• morality advice from those who lied us into Iraq
• political courage advice from those who protected a child predator &
• decorum advice from the original inflammatory shock jocks

Have I got that right?

There are a lot of examples of this but a few really jump out.

On the first one, the fascination with who Colin Powell, chief cheerleader of the lie that Iraq had WMDs, will vote for.

On what authority should anyone care?

This is the guy whose opinion you’d like me to put more stock into?

And while he’s the most egregious let’s not forget @davidfrum, who was the guy tasked with writing Bush’s speeches to build public support for the war.

The second point is obviously about @ProjectLincoln, who are just bad people. They’re also not actually doing anything to help their new cause. I’ve written about that before: thedailybeast.com/the-lincoln-pr…

And the last - and to me, most humorous, although admittedly least serious - is about @WalshFreedom, who cut his teeth as one of the original Freedom Caucus bombthrowers. Here are some old classics. I’ve got reams of these.

What it really comes down to is that the only currency a lot of these people have is in being a “former Republican.” It’s so valuable, in fact, that folks in the media and beyond will forget all about the terrible things they’ve done and said prior.

This isn’t to say we should cast these folks into the dustbin of history. But it certainly seems bizarre if they’re the ones we’re meant to trust for their good judgement, particularly since it isn’t like there’s been a mea culpa on what happened & the (still felt) consequences.

But I, for one, think that we should probably find better examples of moral authority for what the future of the party looks like.

Starting with people who have some sense of morality would help.
