Also known as stress induced cardiomyopathy/takutsubos syndrome/broken heart syndrome
Classically you get apical ballooning and akinesis with basal preservation.
Takutsubos is typically associated with a significant emotional or physical trigger.
Thought to be linked to a sudden surge in catecholamines.
Whilst Takutsubos is a non ischaemic cardiomyopathy and self resolves - it is important to rule out occlusive MI.
Oh, it can also be in reverse pattern - reverse Takutsubos
And just to confuse you even more - you can get biventricular Takutsubos
Finally, don’t forget to look for LV thrombus whenever you have apical akinesis/severe LV impairment!
