1. I lost USD10,000 in shares in 2009 when we dollarized.

I should have known better, I was after all a degreed investment analyst for the most popular asset management firm and we made money make sense.

The problem is I didn’t realize gains.
I had to relearn investing after
2. So I empathize when people fear losses.

This is why I podcast and blog on my experiences / lessons learnt on @maripodcastzw

I have had experience with all markets in Zim and dumb down as much as possible.

Knowledge matters. Please listen and learn and we walk together
3. Besides learning we need to *unlearn* a lot as Zimbabweans on what meaningful returns are.

Over the years I met and learnt from many people. I still enjoy learning. You can’t skip that step in investing.

So, I will share a few people I follow here as we go so you benefit
4. Wealth is built steadily, over time pls.

I have no quick tips.

Start by listening to all the podcasts on mari.co.zw then we build on that, it’s impossible for me to give personal financial advise & against the law.

I offer financial education only for now.
5. But this year, in addition to the podcasts & blogs (which will revert to the product reviews we started with from Q2) - I will share bite size content in newsletters, host monthly events & FINALLY push out the “candid book on all personal finance basics you need to know”
6. We’ve curated a lovely list of 12 topics and will bring in special guests who all have Zimbabwe /Africa connections to break it down.

Remember our @maripodcastzw mantra is simple: Helping You Make Sound Financial Decisions.

Be prepared. Tell others.

It will end in wealth.
7. P.S. it was USD10,000 in OMIR terms so I like to comfort myself by saying even that high rate was off.

Things were much worse!
8. And yes will get an advisory services license as soon as I raise the USD150k

I wrote IELTS (Academic) last week and passed with an average of 8.

My total prep time was 4-5 hours.

So a few more people than the one being assisted by @MoeChanda also came to the DM after I offered to assist with the little info I know.

Therefore, I'll make it a thread.
1. First, disclaimer: don't under prepare. Know how YOU learn.

I generally am a procrastinator on all things exam prep but it mostly works for me.

I also understand how I learn.

I familiarize with exam and the questions structure, then do a few examples, am good to go.
2. Register for the exam and select dates that will give you enough prep time.

Because covid it's now a computer based exam mostly.

This is important because if you prefer paper you NEED to psyche yourself for a different experience.

On 4 March 1996 the whole school marched from St David's Girls High Bonda to Watsomba some 70+ km away, protesting against the actions of the then head, chief of which was the fact that she had purchased new furniture when the clean water pump had broken down. I was there.
We were briefed by prefects the night before. We left after breakfast at 6am, the fastest amongst us arrived 3pm in Watsomba. Authorities tried to make us turn back we were resolute. Police gave us an escort. The weaker ones were now being picked from the back to the destination
Once everyone was in Watsomba, we sat outside the District Education offices, sang songs of solidarity and were then addressed. The man in charge there was incidentally the most recent head SaChidawanyika, lovingly called Baba. He sweet talked us to return to school, buses came

HAUSI ENTREPRENEUR - a thread.
Today Ecocash and Econet calling was mostly down. Folks were complaining on here blaming the company for losing them business. This strangely included some who call themselves innovators. Now, how will you survive when you cannot solve such probs?
You see, we do confuse titles and descriptions a lot on here. Many of us are not entrepreneurs. Neither do we run startups. We are small business owners with small businesses. Kuzvigamuchira mushonga mukuru. True entrepreneurs create models that outlast product. Timeless ones.
One of my fav brothers responded to my earlier tweet capturing part of what I wanted to say. The real entrepreneurs minimized losses today, still got business. Because Ecocash is but 1 payment system & being paid isn’t just cash. Also, Whatsapp was still up. So solution:

1. When I take #FinancialWellness classes I always emphasize that lifestyle changes must be a shared responsibility in a family - don't wake up and impose austerity, even if your intentions are noble, unorwiswa. Share the bigger picture first : everyone will buy in. #Zimbabwe
2. Having gone through the recent announcements at last and the attendant documents, I feel like we have that exact situation. A big daddy who wants to take the fam to Disneyland so stops buying eggs abruptly - idyai dovi, also no meat idyai lacto, no juice imwai mvura and soron
3. When you eventually fly them to Disneyland it may have taken something out of their joy. In reality, they may be eating eggs while you are at work and hide the shells in the bin next door. They will eat their secret meat and leave covo in the basin for you in the warmer...
